Moray House School of Education has been making a major contribution and impact to the field of education both in Scotland and worldwide for almost 200 years. In that time, our staff, students and alumni have influenced, improved and transformed learning and teaching and wider educational policy in the UK and beyond. Today, we continue to conduct research across all aspects of education and learning - from pre-school to higher education and lifelong learning. Our alumni include world-famous novelist J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series, and Great Britain’s most successful Olympic athlete, cyclist Sir Chris Hoy MBE.

Moray House School of Education is the leading School of Education in Scotland - we are ranked first for both educational research and sport and exercise research, according to the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014. The REF also places us in the top five in the UK for educational research and top 10 in the UK for sport and exercise research, confirming our reputation as a UK centre of excellence in these fields.

The School’s five research clusters: Equality, social justice and inclusion; Pedagogy, learning and curriculum; Language, culture and communication; Digital education; Sport, physical education and health science supplement the work of research centres and groups and are aimed at fostering emergent areas of research excellence.
