Trainee Retail Garden Centre Supervisor

Our horticultural business grows and sells £3 million of bedding and patio plants per annum at our large 14 acre nursery near Martock, Yeovil. You would be part of a large retail store team training, learning and focussed on all aspects of horticulture but mainly focussed on retail tasks including garden plant care and merchandising, garden sundries stock control and category management, Christmas store merchandising and supervising payment area staff and processes.
Our retail store is fast paced at busy times with over 1000 paying customers a day passing through the stores and we are successful because we achieve high standards of store presentation, stock merchandising and customer service. We now require two trainee store supervisors to join our team for 6 months of intensive training before progression to more responsibility and higher levels of pay within our company. Our business operates from five nurseries in the South West of UK and can offer excellent career opportunities.
**Your duties would be as follows**:
- Learn and then supervise all garden plants and garden sundries merchandising at store level
- Learn and then supervise all payment area staff management and supervision and adherence to procedures.
- Learn about customer service management and also head office communication and checklists required to run the store
- Be part of a bigger management team and become integral to the most successful nurseries in the southwest of UK
**Skills you will need**:
- Good computer skills and ability to deal with administration, paperwork and head office checklists and requirements.
- Ability to understand systems and quick to pick up information and quality required when carrying out merchandising and store presentation
- This role requires you to be physically active all day on your feet and to carry out lifting and carrying consistently - it is a hands on position and applicants need to enjoy this type of work
- Good planning abilities to ensure consistent management of the retail store
- Good staff management abilities to organise your team effectively.
- Flexible attitude to duties so you can assist across the nursery as part of the management team on a wider basis
- Interest in commercial horticulture and growing of plants
Full training can be given to an enthusiastic applicant willing to learn quickly and who has keen interest in career opportunities in horticulture. Our business operates from five nurseries in the South West of UK and can offer excellent career opportunities.
Our company offers full training programs leading to potential management / supervisory roles in our stores / departments. Our company has a proven, successful system for promoting staff from within our ranks over a three to six month period to higher paid roles within the company.
