Vision Support Officer

Overall Role Purpose
We are here to support people with vision impairments to live independently and live well. We do this by providing services and practical support across South West Cumbria. You will support clients in their homes and in our dedicated resource centre.
Key Responsibilities
Specific requirements and responsibilities vary but will include tasks such as:
- Visiting clients in their own home, assessing client needs, such as lighting, magnification, low vision aids. Which includes demonstration of equipment.
- Assist clients in the Vision Support Centre.
- Keep accurate records of client visits and maintain client confidentiality at all times.
- Encourage clients to attend social clubs and activities.
- Refer to outside agencies e.g. Adult Social Care, Low Vision Service etc.
- Attend Monthly Low Vision Clinic in Barrow on a rota basis.
- Assist in the delivering of Low Vision training and Sighted Guiding.
- Undertake required training associated with the role.

**Working at Vision Support Barrow & District**
At VSBD we work to enable and support people with vision impairments to lead independent lives. We do this by providing a wide range of services and practical support for them and their families across South West Cumbria. Some people with vision impairments, opt to have a Guide Dog to support them with their mobility, therefore, all employees must be comfortable working in environments where dogs may be present.
VSBD is a volunteer-involving organisation and as such all staff are required to support volunteers in their roles. From time to time, you may be asked to provide support at events that take place outside of normal working hours. All employees will be expected to advocate for VSBD.

VSBD will require proof of identity and the right to work in the UK.
