Job description

We are seeking someone with an interest in town planning, housing and climate change to help support
Healthy Homes campaign, planning for climate change workstream and
PERFECT, an EU funded project which promotes the benefits provided by green
infrastructure).

The purpose of this role is to help ensure the effective delivery of the TCPA’s various
projects, by providing exceptional technical research, copy writing and admin support to the
Project and Policy Team.

This role will require occasional work outside office hours. In common with other
organisations, due to the pandemic our staff have been predominantly working from home, however
staff are now encouraged to work in the office at least two days a week.

The Projects Assistant will report to Alex House,
Projects & Policy Manager.

Principal Responsibilities

The principal responsibility of this post is to help ensure the effective delivery of a range
of the TCPA’s projects, by providing exceptional technical research, copy writing and admin
support to the Project and Policy Team. The duties and responsibilities for the Projects

**Assistant include**:
Providing technical research support to the Project and Policy Team on a range of projects
related to planning and the built environment

Effectively supporting the Project and Policy Team by researching and assembling papers and

Helping to organise and co-ordinate projects, including setting up online and in-person
events, meetings and roundtables and assisting with the delivery of these, under the guidance
of the Project and Policy Team

Drafting copy for newsletters and social media

Taking meeting minutes

Undertaking independent research, word processing, presentation and administrative
activities

Other duties as required by the Chief Executive and management team to implement the TCPA
work programme, including working with other staff, Trustees and the Policy Council

Person specification

Essential skills

Knowledge of the built environment, town planning, housing and/or environmental policy

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Attention to detail and accuracy, including the ability to undertake robust research, draft
research papers and take meeting notes

Proficient in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Good team working skills

Good time keeping skills

Self-motivated and well organised, with the ability to work independently and produce high
quality outputs to tight deadlines

Educated to degree level or above

Sympathy with the TCPA’s aims and objectives

Desirable skills

Experience of working in a project and policy-based environment such as a consultancy,
charity or think tank

Experience of supporting the running of events such as seminars and workshops

Knowledge of the UK planning system

The TCPA recognises that skills gained outside work (e.g. through volunteering or caring
where they are relevant.

Contract, pay and benefits

This role is full-time and is a permanent post. The TCPA aims to support its staff to have a
good work / life balance and will consider requests for flexible working where it is possible
given the requirements of the role.

The annual salary for this role will be between £24,500 and £27,000 depending on experience.

The TCPA operates a defined benefit pension scheme run by NEST and, in line
with government policy, new employees are automatically enrolled but can choose to opt out.
Employees’ payments into their pensions are matched by the TCPA up to a maximum of 6% of
salary. This is paid directly into the NEST pension scheme, or another personal pension scheme
nominated by the employee.
