**Role Overview**:
The Data Protection Analyst supports Markel's Data Protection and Privacy framework. This role ensures Markel's data protection policies, standards and strategies are in compliance with applicable laws, regulations and contracts while supporting the strategicplan of the organisation. The Data Protection Analyst will examine systems and procedures while addressing data related issues. This role will assist in building continuous and constant interaction with business partners across the organisation to understandthe constantly evolving data protection environment.
**What you'll be doing**:
- Implement and enhance the Data Privacy Governance Framework.
- Monitor and understand various data related regulations and laws, such as, the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), US California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as directed by the Data Protection Officer.
- Actively support the ongoing efforts around policies, standards and topology diagrams while adhering to procedures.
- Perform investigation, discovery, recording and facilitating activities involved with data requests.
- Bring up issues accordingly to the Data Protection Officer and Director of Business and Cyber Resiliency.
- Support for the entire data protection infrastructure understanding and detailing the location of privacy and critical data, and documenting processes on maintaining the framework.
- Provide input in the development of controls to reduce risk related to data protection.
- Work to establish partnerships with all key business areas to ensure data privacy issues are considered at the outset of new projects, products and initiatives
- Support the Privacy Impact Assessments (PIA) process.
- Support the Data Subject Access Requests (DSAR) process.
**What we're looking for**:
- Bachelor's degree Computer Science and/or or related work experience/certification.
- Knowledge of privacy regulations in both the EU and US.
- Have some knowledge of the connection between Cloud, mobile and other technologies relative to data protection and privacy.
- Knowledge of data protection software and non-virtualized systems
- Experienced in monitoring tools, preferred.
**Preferred Certifications**
- ITIL Certification
- CIPP - Internal Association of Privacy Professionals
- Privacy & Data Protection Foundation (PDPF)
- Privacy & Data Protection Practitioner (PDPP)
- Privacy & Data Protection Expert (PDPE)
- SECO-Certified Privacy & Data Protection Officers (CPDPO)
- Experience with IT process, risk and control frameworks, such as NIST, COBIT and ISO is helpful.
