The Council’s Civil Engineering Services Group are seeking five Construction Assistants to embark (or continue) on a Level 3 Civil Engineering qualification and assist in the delivery of various construction and civil engineering projects for our customers.

As a Construction Assistant, you will be assisting a variety of teams with different projects, bases in the office, at home and on construction sites.

The work will be varied, will require flexibility from the successful applicants and will likely include:

- assisting engineers with small and large construction projects from initial conception and design through to construction;
- assisting with the inspection and maintenance of various Council owned civil engineering assets including the Council’s footways and highways, coastal defences and structural assets such as bridges,
- dealing with day to day queries regarding projects, including liaising with customers,
- co-ordinating civil engineering works’, road closures and traffic management,
- promoting road safety and working closely with external partners to prevent road traffic accidents.
- Learning the fundamentals of design in various Civil Engineering disciplines, whilst being closely mentored.

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to work within construction and civil engineering. You will be supported by a friendly team of professional staff who have a wealth of experience and are keen to support and train a construction assistant to develop their skills, knowledge and experience within this busy and challenging environment.
