The main duties of this Head of Key Stage role will include:
**Operational/Strategic Planning and Implementation**
- To lead and drive forward the college vision.
- To promote high standards of student achievement, aspiration, personal development and welfare, including attendance, punctuality.
- To contribute to the improvement strategies and delivery of the college improvement plan.
- To co-ordinate the delivery of the pastoral curriculum, and liaise with other heads of key stage where necessary, to ensure continuity and progression of pastoral provision throughout the school.
- To lead and manage college areas related to the key stage, e.g. induction, GL assessments, feeder school liaison, monitoring and managing performance, planning/developing strategies, meetings and policies.
- To facilitate the smooth day to day running of the key stage.
- To lead on the development of parental events for the year group, including progress evenings and induction events.
- To market the progression opportunities available within the college. To promote recruitment opportunities to the college.
- To maintain a high visible profile around the college, to have a presence around the college, encouraging students to demonstrate positive behaviour
and attitudes, both in and beyond lessons.
- To be part of the team which holds significant responsibility for managing the efficient and effective day to day running of and execution of routines at the college
- To actively support the promotion and recruitment of the college and secure recruitment targets
- To offer career advice and guidance to students in preparation for their intended destinations (education, employment, apprenticeship, training

**Staffing**
- To promote teamwork, manage and motivate key stage tutors teams.
- To identify training needs and lead and/or co-ordinate training and induction of new Form Tutors
- To undertake training and development relevant to the post.

**Quality Assurance**
- To ensure college policies and procedures are effectively implemented by the tutor team.
- To develop and contribute to the college and key stage self-evaluation process.
- To monitor, evaluate and review the delivery of the pastoral curriculum.
- To monitor, evaluate and review student culture across the year group.
- To monitor, evaluate and review intervention strategies as required achieving excellence for all.

**Management Information and Administration**
- To lead and engage in intervention, mentoring, support as and when required.
- To liaise with feeder schools to establish the pastoral background of all students joining at Year 10 and at Year 12.
- To actively safeguard and promote the wellbeing of all students.
- To monitor and action alerts on CPOMs for the key stage.
- To provide reports for SLT from CPOMs and SIMs in relation to the key stage.
- To review and implement the minute-by-minute student culture scripts.

**Communications**
- To communicate professionally, effectively and efficiently and with all members of the college, students, parents, governors and the wider community.

**Pastoral System**
- To contribute to the leadership and management of the Pastoral System, to ensure that an effective student support framework is in place which meets the college’s vision.
- To lead weekly meetings with the tutor team.
- To take an active role in improving attendance of the key stage and proactively intervening and employing strategies to support student progress.
- To liaise with the attendance officer to promote excellent levels of attendance and punctuality, securing college targets.
- To be responsible for the pastoral care and welfare of the key stage.
- To contribute to the implementation and monitoring of the behaviour management system to ensure that effective learning can take place and barriers to learning are removed.
- To contribute to the implementation and monitoring of the rewards system to ensure that all efforts are recognised and that success is celebrated.
- To keep up-to-date and accurate records for each student and to carry out any other administrative tasks associated with the key stage.
- To lead, plan and deliver assemblies for the key stage.
- To provide support for individuals and groups as required, liaising with external agencies where appropriate.
- To engage with parents and provide support as appropriate, in a prompt fashion.
- To ensure the highest level of confidentiality is maintained at all times.
- To take responsibility for supporting the college’s commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students in the college.

**Other Specific Duties**
- To play a full part in the life of the college community, to support its distinctive mission and ethos and to encourage staff and students to follow this example.
- To actively promote the college’s policies, e.g. attendance, safeguarding, health and safety, Equal Opportunities, Racial Equality etc.
