**Main purpose and scope of post**

To demonstrate specialist expertise in the assessment, treatment and management of language and communication problems in learners with a wide range of language and communication needs, providing appropriate specialist intervention and evaluating outcomes.

To communicate complex condition related information from assessment to learners, staff and members of the multi-disciplinary team/other professions, demonstrating empathy and ensuring that effective communication is achieved, particularly where barriers to understanding exist.

**Responsibilities and accountabilities**

To demonstrate highly developed auditory and perceptual skills in the assessment diagnosis and treatment of learners

To develop the ability to reflect on auditory, visual and kinaesthetic aspects of learners communication and to identify appropriate strategies to facilitate and enhance communicative effectiveness

To liaise with Access Manager in the development and delivery of assistive technology

To demonstrate knowledge of current policies and practice in education and incorporate these into the model of working as appropriate.

To contribute to multi-disciplinary team meetings, case conferences and annual reviews as appropriate.

Development of individual speech therapy programmes to meet the diversity of student need across college

Where appropriate, work with students in classrooms to assist in the process of communications development

Continue to develop the college as a specialist centre for alternative and augmentative communication systems - maintain up to date knowledge and skills in the field of augmentative communications

Provide advice, support and training where appropriate, to college staff in speech communication related matters, thus ensuring a broad-based, cross-college approach

Liaise with staff at the college on individual student communication related issues, including provision of training and supervision of dysphagia management

Maintain records for individual students of interventions and progress made

Work with students to overcome problems with swallowing and feeding

Provide such other treatments as is considered appropriate, in consultation with medical, care and other staff

Develop Speech and Language Therapy Support for the ESB Course within the College Curriculum

Carry out dysphagia assessments where indicated, creating and maintaining risk assessments

Monitor safe feeding skills on an ongoing basis

Provide reports on dysphagia management

Be responsible for developing and maintaining skills and knowledge to competently perform own role through research and training as identified during the appraisal process and on-going feedback.

To work collaboratively with colleagues to support the safeguarding of young people and to adhere to the safeguarding policy and procedure

Contribute to the development of and comply with College policies and procedures.

Carry out any other reasonable duties requested by line manager.

**Job Type**: Permanent

Pay: £20.78-£22.47 per hour
