ABOUT THE ROLE

Do you enjoy being based on site, working with main contractors and end users? If so, this is an exciting opportunity to join the busy Housing Asset Management’s, Major Works Delivery Team in one of the two Clerks of Works posts we currently have available.

Our Clerk of Works are a crucial part of the delivery team, by managing the relationship between our contractors and the Council’s residents on site. They ensure that the day-to-day delivery of work to the Council’s properties takes place by monitoring progress on site and making sure that construction work is carried out to agreed quality standards, specification and schedule, and that health and safety procedures are being followed and in turn help to keep projects on time and on budget.

Our Clerk of Works are also pivotal in ensuring that comments and complaints from our contractors and residents are dealt with as sensitively and efficiently as possible.

You will be required to produce clear site reports with supporting information on a regular basis. You will also be required to work with, and review data and information provided by our partner contractors and consultants. You will be the Project Managers’ eyes and ears on site and as such, required to ensure the council’s interests are protected during a project and provide technical advice as well as find solutions for obstacles to the delivery of your project.

The Major Works Delivery Team are currently managing a range of projects including;
Decent Homes works to all flats and houses

Internals works include - new kitchens; bathrooms; rewires; new boilers; heating systems.

External works include - window and door refurbishment and renewals; external wall insulation; internal insulation to new and existing roofs; replacing fences.

Major refurbishment works to flat blocks

Internal communal area works include - rewires; lighting; decorations; new doors; health and safety works

External works include - new roofs; cladding; insulation; windows and doors; door entry systems; lighting; redecorations; fencing; bin stores

ABOUT YOU

This role requires someone with good building technical knowledge and the ability to work through problems. You should be a confident individual who is engaging, diplomatic and have the ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with contractors, residents, and other stakeholders.
- A broad knowledge of the construction industry covering materials, trades, building methods, and legal requirements
- Excellent observational skills and the ability to pay attention to detail
- The ability to carry out pre and post works inspections
- The ability to identify and monitor potential risks within projects
- The ability to deliver projects on time and on budget
- Good organisational skills
- Excellent communication and negotiating skills
- Good written communication skills, for completing paperwork and compiling reports
- The ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with staff at all levels
