**Job summary**:
DI is part of the Ministry of Defence and provides intelligence support to decision making across all levels of Defence and government and delivers specialist outputs including operations.
SCG is a part of DI Operations that delivers operational activity designed to support the achievement of Defence objectives. This work ultimately contributes to the UK’s strategic advantage against adversaries. SCG activity takes place in close partnership with a range of partners, both within wider DI and other government departments.
As part of UK Strategic Command, DI supports the Chief of Defence Intelligence to ensure that key strategic decisions made by Ministers, senior officials, the Armed Services and the broader National Security Community are informed by high quality, authoritative intelligence advice and assessment.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
**Job description**:
The SCG’s Operations Planners are an essential part of supporting the delivery of operations intended to support Defence objectives. A planner’s work will involve engaging and collaborating with partners, particularly DI assessment teams, to find opportunities for operational effect. Planners will be responsible for developing operational concepts from opportunity through to execution.
To be a planner in SCG, you will need to have
- Proven experience of collaboration and adaptability.
- Experience of planning, or an interest in developing knowledge of the planning process.
- Ideally, have a broad range of defence or intelligence experience.
The SCG is a cross-site team meaning this post will require regular working in London.
**Person specification**:
You will have:
- Good leadership skills including an ability to foster an innovative and cohesive working environment.
- Excellent communication skills, confidently engaging with senior managers and customers.
- Ability to work quickly and flexibly; managing a portfolio of work that will vary between long term planning and short notice tasks delivered at pace.
- A background in, or willingness to learn, operational planning, or project or programme management within a relevant security context.
- An understanding of intelligence support to operations.
- Experience of collaborating with other teams or departments to deliver a common goal.
- The skills required for critical thinking.
