Preschool Assistant Job Description

**Job summary**:
To assist and support the Room leader/Deputy manager in providing a stimulating and varied programme of play and ensuring safety and well-being of the children.

The Preschool Assistant will be required to;
- Help prepare and fully set out equipment before the children arrive and tidy up after each session
- Help provide and support in activities
- Be prepared to attend staff meetings and contribute to forward planning for the group
- Work closely with supervisor/manager and other staff
- Be prepared to undertake relevant training
- Take part in special events, visits and outings
- Be familiar with the policies and procedures of the group and adhere to them at all times
- Advise a supervisor on any matter requiring attention, such as concerns about a child or equipment needing replacement of repair
- In the first instance approach the supervisor/manager on any matters relating to staff cover and any other job related query. However if a satisfactory conclusion cannot be reached the matter must be brought to the committee who will make the final decision

Essential qualities Desirable qualities
- Level 2 qualification in childcare, **Paediatric first aid education or playwork ** Level 2 Food hygiene
- Experience with working with children **Knowledge of Safeguarding/training**

3-11 years **Level 3 qualification in childcare,**
- Understand the varying needs of education or playwork children and their families **Have some knowledge of planning for**:

- Keep confidential information children’s next steps regarding the children, their families or staff which is learnt at work
- Good communication skills

**Job Type**: Part-time

**Salary**: From £9.50 per hour
