Youth Justice Police Liaison Officer

Mansfield, United Kingdom Nottinghamshire Police Full time

Job description

**Main Purpose of Role**

**Be part of the new force wide Youth Intervention Section (YIS)**

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Youth Intervention Section (formerly known as the Police Youth Justice Team) in a police staff role. We have recently formed a new team to cover the whole of Nottinghamshire to give greater consistency for criminal justice outcomes for children. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person to work alongside our experienced YIS police staff at Mansfield Police Station. Flexibility is also crucial in supporting colleagues in the City when necessary.

**What do we do?**

We provide advice, make decisions on and deliver Out of Court Disposals (OOCD) to children, which directly impacts children’s re-offending across the County. Joining the YIS, you can expect to liaise with Police Officers, Youth Justice Case Managers, Social Care, Remedi Victim Services and third-party intervention providers. You will develop awareness of the current issues affecting young people including Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE), Child Criminal Exploitation (CCE), safeguarding and Adverse Childhood Experiences.

The Youth Justice Police Liaison Officer will act as a point of contact for enquiries from Police and YJS colleagues both internally and externally. This will be in relation to OOCDs, child offenders and policing matters. You will become a Dedicated Decision Maker and look at the eligibility and suitability of referrals. You will complete relevant information sharing with partner agencies in line with data sharing agreements.

**What would we like from you?**

We want you to coordinate and manage referrals in relation to all available OOCD options whilst ensuring adherence to the Child First principles and Youth Justice Board National Standards. You will develop knowledge of the Youth Justice Service provision across Nottinghamshire and understand how we deal with Out of Court referrals. You will need to be adept at reviewing police systems and information sharing. You will need to be willing to be trained on using partner agency systems.

You will need to make decisions and need a grasp of relevant legislation including the Crime and Disorder Act 1998. You must be organised, consistent and have excellent communication skills.

You will need to work on your own and as part of a small team with limited supervision and engage with partner agencies at a high level. You will need to be capable of using your own initiative and making decisions and work under pressure as demand is significant and fluctuates. You must have a valid driver’s licence and be willing to travel to a number of sites if required.

**Key Skills & Experience Required**

Excellent IT and communication skills

**IMPORTANT INFORMATION**:
**Vetting Level - Management - you must have resided in the UK for at least the last 5 years**

For current Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner staff applicants, please note that Nottinghamshire Police would be a new employer. However, an agreement has been made whereby all tenure and length of service will be honoured.
