This role is within the International Production and Formats division in BBC Studios. The Head of Format Acquisitions is responsible for finding and securing a market leading slate of global unscripted formats from around the world.
Support the delivery of commercial results for either brand or genre to deliver growth and revenue and build the BBC brand internationally.
Main Responsibilities
- Work with manager to deliver targets and priorities outlined in 5 year plan.
- Manage relationships with a range of UK and international production companies, keeping up to date with their slates and assessing projects for acquisition
- Day to day management of formats investment budget
- Day to day management of acquisition slate
- Lead, negotiate, close commercial negotiations, ensuring the best possible terms are achieved to deliver against targets
- Track and manage contracting process, working closely with Business and Legal Affairs
- Investment modelling, building investment cases & submission for relevant approvals
- Support Commercial Director to identify new commercial opportunities to achieve and exceed global growth objectives
- Understand consumer trends, broadcaster requirements and new technologies translating this to inform new deal opportunities.
- Where relevant represent the business’ editorial or brand involvement in a project, and give guidance on the realities of the commercial marketplace and how opportunities can become more profitable in the commercial markets.
- Work with multidisciplinary teams to ensure that all relevant updates and details needed for effective delivery of a deal are considered, includes deal precedents or cross division opportunities
- Strong communication and analytical skills required
- Ability to effectively and tactfully deal with diverse staff at all levels; ability to work in teams & influence teams, particularly those in other countries
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
- Self-starter with the ability to see projects through to completion, problem solve, and multi-task under time constraints
- Intellectual curiosity and commercial acumen
- Ability to deal with ambiguity and collaborate across boundaries
- Experience in strategic brand, marketing editorial or commercial experience
- Media sector experience is desirable
- Global / Regional experience desirable
- Track record of working with world class brands
