An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 6 months secondment Band 7 Endocrine CNS.

As a Endocrine Nurse Specialist you will be asked to undertake Dynamic Endocrine testing, see Endocrine follow up patients and become an additional clinical point of contact within the Endocrinology department.
- Nurse led clinics
- Providing specialist knowledge within the department including patient education, performing dynamic functions tests, participating in audit and research
- Organising admissions for patients who need in patient tests
- Organising the relevant investigations for new patients prior to their initial visit

This includes health visitors and school nurses who are delivering the national Healthy Child Programme, which provides a structured framework for the delivery of key interventions to support the health and wellbeing of children and families from 0 to 5 and school aged children from 5-19. The 0-19 service aims to improve pathways and partnerships with services in the hospital and deliver excellent care for the children and families.

Maintain personal contact with patients, relatives and carers in a courteous and sensitive manner to address their needs, being mindful of professional boundaries.

To be responsible for ensuring the environment is kept clean and tidy, ensuring infection control policies are strictly adhered to by all staff

Communicate, liaise and negotiate with the multidisciplinary teams at all levels to promote comprehensive, high quality patient care.

Participate in nursing and multidisciplinary research/audit, ensuring that evidence based nursing practice is promoted through publication at national conferences. Ensure that audits/research undertaken completes the audit cycle so the effectiveness of change can be assessed.

To demonstrate and provide expert venous cannulation and phlebotomy skills.

Administering specialist medication i.e. Sandostatin LAR, Lanreotide, Vitamin D and Testosterone injections safely and in accordance with the protocol/policy.

Teach appropriate patients and their family/carers how to administer their own treatments i.e. subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, for example growth hormone and emergency hydrocortisone injection.

Contribute to protocols, documentation systems, standards, policies and clinical guidelines for others to use in practice.
