**Area Command / Department - Harm Reduction and Communities**
**Location - Newcastle**
**Contract Type - Permanent**
**Hours - Full Time**
**Salary Range - £20,040 to £21,837**
**This role will be predominantly based in Forth Banks, but you will be expected to travel throughout either the Southern or Central Area of our Force - therefore access to transport would be required. Some home working will also be possible.**
Ever wondered what it would be like to work for one of the biggest Police Forces in the UK? Exciting, challenging, thought-provoking and rewarding are just some of the ways we would describe it. And that’s not just the Police Officers. At Northumbria Policewe’ve got 2000 staff making our community a safe place to live, work and visit. Fancy joining us?
We have a unique opportunity to join our Harm Reduction team as a Prevention through Education Co-ordinator. This is a fantastic role where you will play a key part in the coordination of early intervention programmes, ultimately supporting the safety ofyoung people in our communities.
**What will I be doing in the role?**
In this role you’ll be building on existing relationships with local schools and identifying what support programmes they could benefit from. You will then liaise with internal stakeholders such as our Neighbourhood Policing Team to coordinate the deliveryof these sessions.
You’ll also be researching where new relationships will benefit the local community, prioritising the right training in the right areas and recognising those that need it most.
As well as being very organised, you’ll need to be a strong communicator, who is comfortable working with colleagues, schools, and external partners. Some of the schools you’ll be contacting won’t have worked with our force previously, so you’ll need tobe confident in promoting the benefits - as well as being resilient when things don’t go to plan. This is a rewarding role where your every day planning will play a big part in educating young people and help to deliver early intervention.
**What will a typical day look like?**
- You’ll be talking directly with local schools and our Safeguarding Officers to identify emerging areas of concern.
- Planning when and where sessions need to take place, and who is best placed to deliver them.
- Promoting and raising awareness of the support programmes we can provide to support young people in our local community.
- Building strong links with the Neighbourhood Policing Team and Community Engagement Team in your area command.
- Looking at our programme delivery to identify duplication/inconsistency, then acting on resolving this.
- Ensuring best practice is followed with early intervention methods.
- Creating a calendar of events to ensure resources are used efficiently.
**What essential skills are required?**
- Strong communication skills and the ability to adapt these to various stakeholders
- Effective and efficient planning and organisation skills. You’ll need a strong ability to manage your own time and deliver to deadlines
- The confidence to build strong relationships
- Solid research skills and the confidence to work independently
- The ability to present to various audiences, such as partners, police officers and staff
You don’t need to have worked in this type of role before, if you have the above essential skills, we’d be keen to hear from you.

We support our people inside and out of work - offering a very competitive pension scheme, childcare vouchers, and discounts on shopping and eating out through the Blue Light Card scheme. And to take care of your physical and mental well-being, we have trained mental health first aiders, an employee advice service and access to gyms in some stations.
