**About Northumbria Students’ Union**

Northumbria Students’ Union is independent from the University and a registered charity; however, the two organisations work closely together to deliver a first-rate service to students and the University has a legal obligation to ensure the good management and running of the Union. Northumbria Students’ Union is integral to the provision of the modern, top-class service provided to the student membership. When a student joins Northumbria University, they automatically become a member of the Union. There are currently over 40,000 members around the world, with the majority studying in the city of Newcastle.

The post reports to the Marketing Manager, a key member of the Management team who in turn reports to the Head of Marketing. The Union employs over 130 staff at the busiest time of the year and employs a core of around 50 people on a year-round basis.

**About the role**

The is a full-time permanent position within the Marketing Department. The Marketing department consists of Head of Marketing, Marketing Manager, Multimedia Content Coordinator, Graphic Design Coordinator, Website and Comms Coordinator and up to 10 part time marketing assistants who are students at Northumbria.

You will be working with the Marketing Manager developing and designing the Students’ Unions publicity materials, devising creative design solutions working with and alongside other departmental managers.

Communication and building Relationships
- To develop conceptual designs for the Students’ Union’s publicity materials following working with the Marketing Manager, and where appropriate, department managers
- To provide innovative and creative design solutions in line with NSU’s marketing plan, which engage with the student demographic.
- To work in collaboration with other content creators within the marketing team to create new and innovative ideas to make our communications more appealing and engaging to students.
- To support the Multimedia Content Coordinator to ensure digital assets are presented in the most effective way to maximise student engagement and interaction.
- To provide advice and support to Students’ Union staff and volunteers on design formats, software and graphic design principles.
- To attend meetings with the department manager as and when required.
- Build strong relationships with colleagues, show respect for the views of others and communicate effectively using appropriate language

Effective at managing themselves
- To ensure all design work from the Union adheres to brand guidelines.
- To produce finished designs for the Students’ Union’s publicity materials in a variety of digital and print formats.
- To adapt designs for use in different mediums for example, magazine advertisements, posters, website graphics, TV advertisements, large format publicity and more.
- To produce design layouts and typesetting for the Students’ Union publications.
- Use initiative and take responsibility for own work and personal development
- Work towards organisational goals.

Leadership and Decision Making
- Bring forward innovative solutions to challenges specific to role
- Collaborate with Union departments to ensure ideas from the operational teams are realised in line with effective design principles and Union branding
- Stay up to date with the latest creative industry trends

- To respect the democratic structure of the Students’ Union; the post holder will be expected to work closely with elected officers.
