We have an amazing opportunity to join us as a **Lead Civil Operative**within our civil operations team. You will play a huge part in the delivery of NGN’s Capital Programme of works, delivering civil engineering works across all NGN gas assets. We offer specific training and qualifications in this role and throughout your career at NGN.
The role requires hardworking, dedicated, and committed individuals who can be flexible, as this role will require early starts and evening work. Our Lead Civil Operatives must be prepared to work sometimes in adverse weather conditions, so this is another important consideration before you apply.
**Key accountabilities and responsibilities**
- Provide leadership and supervision to the team of civil operatives, ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently and to a high standard
- Ensure that all team members adhere and comply with health and safety regulations, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain a safe working environment in accordance with relevant HSE Legislation, Company Standards and Codes of Practice
- Maintain high standards of workmanship and attention to detail in all tasks performed to a quality assurance standard
- Efficiently manage materials, tools, and equipment to minimise waste and ensure that resources are available when needed
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure that work is carried out according to the project plan and schedule
- Identify and address any issues or obstacles that arise on-site and develop practical solutions to keep the project on track with your problem-solving skills
- Maintain accurate records of work completed, including timesheets, progress reports, and safety checklists
- Provide training, development and support to team members to enhance their skills and ensure they can perform their duties effectively
- Maintain clear and effective communication with team members, supervisors, and other stakeholders always to ensure that everyone is informed and aligned
- Ensure that all work is carried out in an environmentally responsible manner, including proper disposal of waste materials and minimizing the impact on the surrounding area
**What we are looking for**
- A self-starter with an understanding of the importance of a zero-tolerance safety culture and delivering excellent customer service every time
- Knowledge and experience within all aspects of civil works, concreting, drainage, reinstatement, paving and ground works
- Qualifications relevant to civil engineering, CPCS/NPORS excavators, dumpers, abrasive wheels, deep excavations, NRSWA, CSCS etc
- Be able to follow instructions from civil operations site manager, complete risk assessments and comply to works method statements, always ensuring a high standard OF EH&S compliance
- Fit enough to meet the physical demands of the role and enjoy working outdoors in all weathers
- A team player with a can-do attitude
- Comfortable with adhering to the clean-shaven policy as part of our Health & Safety policy
**What we Offer**
- A competitive salary of £35,500 per annum
- Incentive scheme - additional earnings of up to £3,000 per annum
- 41.25 hours per week over a 7-day variable work pattern, including standby. Rotas are given in advance and will include some night shifts although this would not be expected on a weekly basis.
