**About the opportunity**

As Drainage Lead for the East Sussex Highways (ESH) drainage team, you will coordinate and deliver drainage improvement schemes, the routine cleansing programme, special drainage investigations and reactive works. The role is key in ensuring an efficient, well managed highway drainage asset in East Sussex.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Project manage drainage schemes from concept to delivery.
- Design and deliver reactive minor projects.
- Manage special drainage investigations, ensuring Quality output reports.
- Ensure continuous contractual compliance which employ the key principles of NEC.
- Use best industry practice/Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) to engineer robust solutions.
- Practice continuous professional development (CPD) and encourage CPD amongst team members in the pursuit of knowledge improvement.
- Encourage innovation within the workstream.
- Support and supervise the drainage team, managing workloads.
- “Trouble shoot” issues and optioneer robust short and long term solutions, including “quick fixes”.
- Manage the drainage cleansing programme ensuring that it is delivered on time and within the Core drainage budget.
- Monitor supply-chain contractor performance to ensure client and customer confidence of a high Quality service.
- Challenge current process, identify and implement continuous improvements.
- Work closely with the client and the client asset team to help manage budgets and develop robust asset management.
- Continuous stakeholder liaison.
- “Think like a customer” in the response to local drainage issues and implementation of solutions.
- Work collaboratively with other ESH teams and stakeholders.
- Comply with ESH’s Quality management systems
- Comply with ESH’s Safety, Health and Environment policies and processes.
- Implement particular role duties within the CDM Regulations.

**Here’s What You’ll Need**:

- HNC/HND or degree in Civil Engineering (or closely related discipline)
- Civil engineering experience within the local authority highways sector, including drainage design and delivery.
- Project management experience.
- Experience of optioneering design solutions and specifications
- Knowledge of budget process and control.
- Knowledge of Safety, Health and Environment matters in relation to the construction industry.
