**About the Opportunity**
As a Permit Inspector on our East Sussex Highways contract you will work within the Network Management Team whose objective is to ensure that all work activities carried in the public highway are undertaken in compliance with the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (NRSWA), the Traffic Management Act 2004 (TMA), the East Sussex Permit Scheme, Street-Manager and national guidance and Codes of Practice. The Network compliance team undertake inspections on works, to ensure compliance with permit conditions, SROH and other legislative requirements
Your key tasks and accountabilities will include:
- To carry out the inspection and monitoring of works to ensure that they are being undertaken safely and in accordance with the current requirements namely the NRSWA 1991, SROH and the safety at Street-works and roadworks code of practice.
- Understand the East Sussex permit scheme and national permit conditions to ensure effective inspections are undertaken.
- Liaise with Network coordinators to monitor in progress works and report on site activities and attendance to minimise traffic disruption and reduce permit durations.
- To assist in the investigation and report on complaints received in respect of work being undertaken by others on the highway, acting as appropriate and producing reports on findings/actions.
- Act in accordance with legislative requirements when a danger to highway users exists due to defective signing, lighting, and guiding and defective Utility frames and covers.
- Ensure that all utility companies are working in a safe manner, monitoring active sites, and inspecting reinstatements to ensure they have been completed to the required specifications.
- If required attend meetings with local councillors, residents, and other stakeholders with a positive and professional approach.
- Represent Network Management at meetings to contribute appropriately with research, analysis and reporting of information, and if required briefing senior staff on issues.
- Research customer enquiries and provide accurate and timely information, advice and guidance to internal and external customers.
- Maintain and process paper and ICT based systems and records for the coordination of road works using appropriate ICT systems as required under the NRSWA and TMA for a designated service area.
**Here’s What You’ll Need**:
- Experience working in inspection/operational Highway environment
- Excellent customer service, observational and organisation skills
- Understanding of a Permit Scheme
- Any knowledge of relevant legislation including Highways Act 1980, New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) 1991, Traffic Management Act 2004,SROH V4 would be valuable but training will also ge given
- Basic knowledge of highway maintenance techniques and procedures
