The general Medicine department are looking for a part time Junior Clinical Fellow for the Medical Day Unit based in Singleton Hospital

This post is required to provide medical support and to maintain patient safety in the medical day unit (Programmed Investigation Unit).

PIU provides care for patients requiring intravenous transfusions such as biologics, iron transfusion and blood transfusions, and also supports the delivery of various medical procedures such as pleural and ascitic drains, as well as the early discharge of the patients with follow up blood tests and reviews.

PIU is based at Singleton Hospital and provides an ambulatory care service for the various patient population as an integral part of the newly designed AMSR service at Morriston, facilitating early discharge and follow up of patients by providing various outpatient services in a safe environment.

PIU provides care for patients requiring intravenous transfusions such as biologics, iron transfusion and blood transfusions, and also supports the delivery of various medical procedures such as pleural and ascitic drains, as well as the early discharge of the patients with follow up blood tests and reviews.

The MDU SHO (JCF) will be working alongside a team of Physician Associates, Nurse Specialists and Nursing staff to provide medical support in an ambulatory care setting.

Prescribing duties including biologic infusions, electrolyte replacements, blood and iron, also managing complex medical patients referred from primary and secondary care by ordering and reviewing investigations, blood tests, medications and symptom management whilst liaising with the specialist teams.

The post will also involve pre-assessment review of patients attending for day case procedures including ERCP, OGD and EUS, and reviewing patients on the unit who become acutely unwell or have post procedural complications, to facilitate their admission to hospital.

Swansea Bay University Health Board has responsibility for the health of around 390,000 people in the Neath Port Talbot and Swansea areas, with a budget of around £1 billion and employing 12,500 people. We are a University Health Board working in partnership with Swansea University, Swansea School of Medicine, the School of Health Science and the Institute of Life Science. The HB has three major hospitals providing a range of services: Morriston and Singleton hospitals in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot hospital in Baglan, Port Talbot.

Swansea has a range of shops, cozy cafes, great restaurants, art galleries as well as being able to offer good outdoor lifestyle with its beautiful coastline and beaches on the Gower Peninsula. Swansea also has excellent sporting facilities including the Wales National pool and liberty stadium home to the Ospreys and Swansea City football club.
