Assistant Underwriter - UK Casualty
London, with hybrid working

We have a rare opportunity to join our UK Casualty team.

The UK Casualty team underwrites a broad range of commercial risks from our Fenchurch Street office in London. It’s an exciting time for us as we continue to be involved in unique and specialist risks.

As an Assistant Underwriter, you’ll play a key role in supporting the team across underwriting and operational tasks. With support from experienced colleagues, this is a fantastic chance to grow your underwriting career in a collaborative and specialist environment.

Your New Role
- Underwrite business in accordance with the business plan and within our UK and European business.
- Perform underwriting activities in accordance with all legal and regulatory requirements to ensure obligations are met
- Contribute to the recording and measurement of insurance risks to ensure accuracy and good practice
- Maintain and develop relationships with stakeholders including customers, brokers, business partners and colleagues, to increase exposure in the market.
- Develop knowledge of market dynamics and market cycles to be able to support business performance.
- Underwrite insurance risks to meet business objectives including negotiating rates, terms and conditions for existing and new business, ensuring production and issue of contract certainty documentation and supporting credit control in payment collection.
- Support the review and analysis of the portfolio to identify progress towards business objectives

About you
- Previous experience in an underwriting support role, ideally within the Lloyd’s market
- Knowledge of Property or Casualty (UK or international) would be ideal
- A high level of numeracy and literacy
- Highly organised with good analytical and interpersonal skills.
- Problem solving skills - demonstrates tenacity in handling and resolving queries.
- Intermediate level understanding of relevant software, including Excel and other departmental software packages.
