We are seeking two experienced and motivated Surgical Care Practitioners to join the Spinal and Sarcoma Teams at RNOH. This is an opportunity to work in a specialised multidisciplinary environment, supporting complex surgical procedures and delivering high-quality perioperative and intraoperative care.
About the Role
You will work closely with Consultant Surgeons, providing expert clinical care and advanced surgical practice. Demonstrating autonomy in patient assessment, diagnosis, and management, supported by defined competencies and trust protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a first/second assistant in surgery and perform defined invasive procedures.
- Deliver advanced perioperative and postoperative care with a focus on complex surgical pathways.
- Lead on clinical governance activities, including audit and research.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to optimise patient pathways and ensure adherence to cancer waiting times where appropriate.
- Provide mentorship and education to junior staff while maintaining a high standard of patient-centred care.

About You
You should be a dynamic, driven surgical practitioner with clinical expertise and a passion for improvement in surgical services. You will be collaborative demonstrating leadership in practice, education, and research.
To be an expert clinical practitioner, ensuring patients receive high quality clinical care whilst undertaking defined invasive procedures, utilising specialist knowledge and skills.
To act as a first or second assistant to the Consultant Surgeons or other members of the surgical team.
To participate in pre and post-operative care of surgical patients, with particular attention to appropriate work up of patients and the establishment of effective pathways for complex procedures, wound care, wound healing and the prevention of infection in surgical wounds.

To be a motivated, dynamic advanced surgical practitioner, striving for improvement in care and practice.
To monitor quality and continuity of patient care, taking action to address improvements as required.
To ensure that care is based and planned on an individual assessment for a positive patient experience.
To liaise closely with the MDT administrative teams to ensure patients are discussed where appropriate at the relevant MDT meetings.

To communicate effectively with patients, relatives and colleagues.

To act as a role model and expert clinician, contributing to the training of junior medical staff and providing support and guidance to all staff delivering care to patients.
To help prepare for and improve efficiency in the outpatient clinics.
To reinforce an effective bridge between ward based clinical staff and team based clinical staff.
To assist with the effective management of emergency transfers under the sarcoma surgical team.
