**About Hidden London**
Hidden London (HL) generates income for London Transport Museum (LTM) by offering physical and virtual public, group and private tours to disused stations and other non-public spaces within the TfL system. At the same time as contributing to LTM’s long term financial sustainability, the Hidden London programme furthers the reach of LTM, by expanding the Off-site Programme and attracting new more diverse adult audiences. The programme helps underpin LTM’s aspiration to be the best transport museum in the world: no other museum offers such a comprehensive public engagement with all aspects of a city’s transport network.
**Overview of project/role**
The role of Hidden London Lead Guide reports to the Hidden London Engagement Manager and their main duty is to manage the guiding team, act as an expert practitioner and to provide the benchmark of excellent guiding to the rest of the team as well as coach and train existing and new guides. The Lead Guide will also be required to help the development of new tours and to quality assure the performance of all guides and assist with their ongoing development as presenters.
**Key Accountabilities**
- Line manage and provide leadership for Hidden London guides, including training guides on all Hidden London Tours and provide ongoing coaching to improve performance and development.
- Routinely visit public Hidden London in person and virtual tours and quality assess the performance of the guides based on criteria, including: accuracy of narrative, audience engagement, vocal projection and physical presentation, and act as an example of best practice for other staff members and know the narrative and tour procedures to each of the Hidden London sites to the highest standard.
- Be prepared to cover tours for all audiences at short notice due to staff difficulties or sickness including at weekends by agreement.
- Lead and deliver private tours for groups, VIP and corporate clients and our Patrons’ Circle to the highest standard.
- Create, organise and run training programmes for new and existing guides when a new site is about to be opened/re-opened including for virtual tours.Assist with the development of new tours and experiences as well as reviewing our existing tours to improve the
- programme.
- Work with the Project Coordinator, Operations Manager and Operations Supervisor to roster guides and manage shift swaps and scheduling.
- The role requires the Lead Guide to work at multiple sites at different times dependent on business need, including evenings and weekends, and will also be required to report back to the Museum regularly.
- The is a job shared with one individual doing FTE 0.6, this advertisement is for FTE 0.4.

- The Lead Guide must have a very good general knowledge of London, its history, and its transport system.
- A good knowledge of the history of its transport system is desirable.
- Strong organisational skills, ability to work under pressure, manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines.
- Strong collaborative skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Creative and flexible with an innovative, customer focused approach.
- Must be able to communicate on several different levels, including volunteers, colleagues, customers, VIPs and sponsors.
- Computer skills (MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel skills will be needed to take advantage of the Museum’s Information technology.
**Experience**
- The Lead Guide must have considerable, demonstrable experience of tour guiding across a range of different sites and working as part of a team.
