Are you a communications professional with the ability to able to track down great stories, maintain a vast network of contacts and foster strong connections in media? Do you have a passion for science - from space missions to pioneering physics?

STFC is seeking a Press Officer, preferably with strong journalism or public relations experience, to cover its Science Communication and Media activities at our Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Oxfordshire. We need someone who can work with our scientificand engineering staff to seek out stories about the many ground-breaking discoveries being undertaken at our RAL campus.

Your storytelling skills will help us share the excitement and social impact of our world-leading science, engineering and technology to a range of audiences through digital and traditional channels. Your compelling content and creative ideas will generateincreased public and stakeholder interest in our research and the people at RAL.

Recent story successes with a long media reach coming out of RAL have included the UK contribution to the James Webb Space Telescope mission. This year will see the successful Press Officer work on promoting the switch on of the Large Hadron Collider atCERN, the promotion of at least two new world leading research facilities at RAL in laser science and space science and of course first light for the Webb.

We're looking for a dynamic, creative, highly skilled communications professional to join our team and help tell our unique story.

To succeed in this role, you will:

- Be an excellent storyteller, with exceptional writing skills and the ability to grasp complex information and translate it into meaningful and authentic content
- Work well under pressure, with fast-moving and tight deadlines
- Be able to manage multiple projects at once, with the ability to prioritise accordingly
- Be resilient with excellent organisational skills and self-motivation
- Have the ability to quickly form robust working relationships with a diverse range of partners and contacts.
