We are working with a leading medical device company that is currently looking to grow their team by securing a Mechanical Design Engineer, this is an important hire for the business as they enter another year of growth.

**Mechanical Design Engineer**

Responsible for creation of design solutions for new products, early concepts and engineering changes to existing products through collaboration with Innovation, NPI, Engineering teams and manufacturing vendors.

**Responsibilities of the role**
- Work and communicate effectively with the Innovation, NPI and Engineering Teams to push creative boundaries
- To provide design engineering capability to the R&D team and define how the product can meet performance requirements.
- Agree design work packages with the Project NPI Lead for new products from design inputs.
- To execute design intent by working cross-functionally with internal colleagues and external vendors as required.
- Include Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFM/DFA) approaches from the outset, including appropriate materials selection, working closely with suppliers and internal functions including engineering, quality and production to ensure a robust product designis delivered.
- Responsible for the creation of 3D CAD models and 2D manufacturing drawings with appropriate calculations, GD&T, computational and tolerance stack analysis.
- Compilation of tolerance analysis of designs using a staged approach aligned to materials and processes.
- Deliver outputs in a clear, concise and articulate format, including facilitation of dFMEA sessions utilizing cross-functional team members.
- Provide fully detailed production ready CAD files and drawings for injection moulded and precision machined components including BoM development.
- Capable of designing to CoGS targets and articulating design trade-off considerations.
- Responsible for the compliance of all technical documents and data pertaining to the design of new and modified components / devices and orderly handover for production tooling.
- Ownership and maintenance of the PDM system.
- Comply with medical device regulations, guidance, and standards FDA, EU MDD/MDR, ISO14971 / ISO 13485 as appropriate.

**Qualifications and experience**
- BSc, BEng, MSc, MEng, HND in a Product Design, Mechanical or Medical Engineering discipline or HNC / equivalent apprenticeship served, e.g. Mechanical & Production Engineering.
- Experience: Injection moulding experience within a regulated environment including DFM, DFA, Design for tooling, preferably the manufacture of medical devices. Knowledge of mechanism design and CNC machining desirable.
- A good understanding of prototyping methodologies and processes (desirable).
- Proficient in Solidworks including an understanding of theoretical analysis e.g. FEA / fluid dynamics and joining technologies.
- Knowledge of Injection moulding simulation software e.g. Moldflow desirable.
- Sound knowledge of design controls processes including dFMEA, Design Review Process and risk management (ISO14971 beneficial).
- Personal Attributes: Self-motivated and organized. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Innovative and creative thinker. Good attention to detail.
