**Location: Hybrid **-** **1 or 2 days per week in London, Glasgow, Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester or York.***

The Transport Select Committee’s recommendations from its inquiry into the roll-out and safety of smart motorways make this a pivotal and exciting time for ORR’s Highways team.

In this role you will work with colleagues across ORR to support aspects of the team’s work in this high profile and fast paced policy area, with a specific focus on assessing and reporting on future developments in smart motorways and digital roads.

Alongside this, you will contribute to, and have an opportunity to shape, the work of the newly formed Highways Strategy team; feed into the wider Highways team’s performance monitoring and reporting and inform ORR’s advice to government on setting the third road investment strategy (RIS3).

**As a Policy Advisor your main responsibilities would be**:

- Working independently to lead the development and assessment of digital roads workstreams, including links to work on the Transport Select Committee (TSC) recommendations, ORR’s wider performance monitoring and advice on setting future RISs.
- Working with colleagues across the Highways team to support the development and implementation of the TSC recommendations on Smart Motorways.
- Working closely with the ORR’s Head of Highways Safety and Performance and Safety Advisor to support the development of a new annual safety report, focusing on smart motorways safety performance.
- Supporting the delivery of ORR’s other outputs as needed, e.g., ORR’s Annual Assessment of National Highways and ORR’s monitoring of the Smart Motorways Action Plan.

**You’ll have**:

- Experience of managing performance and challenging stakeholders, via performance metrics and data.
- Experience of providing technical expertise to support the production of high-quality analytical outputs and briefing, suitable for a range of audiences including senior decision makers.
- Experience of presenting complex or technical information to non-specialists.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
