**Science Learning and Progress Support Assistant**who can demonstrate independence, resourcefulness and willingness to work as part of a team is required to join a well-established Academy Trust based in Hedge End, Southampton, Hampshire.
Experience within the classroom would be an advantage but is not essential.
**SALARY**:£23,703 per annum FTE / Actual Annual Salary £18,969
**LOCATION**:Hedge End, Southampton, Hampshire
**JOB TYPE**:Full Time, Permanent (Term Time Only)
**WORKING HOURS**:33.75 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8.15am - 4.00pm, Term Time Only (40 weeks)
**JOB OVERVIEW**
We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Science Learning and Progress Support Assistantwho can demonstrate independence, resourcefulness and willingness to work as part of a team.
Working as a Science Learning and Progress Support Assistant you will be enthusiastic, calm and will have a genuine interest in working with students.
As the Science Learning and Progress Support Assistant you will work closely with the Science Director of Learning and teaching staff within the Science Department fostering the participation of students in the social and academic processes of school, enablingstudents to become more independent learners and help raise the standards of achievement.
**DUTIES**
- Work with the DoLs and teaching staff within Science, to identify students who are failing to make the appropriate levels of progress
- Help devise programmes of study which enable students to 'catch up’ and progress further with their studies
- Liaise with class teachers and parents with regards to the progress made by identified groups of students
- Help manage after school clinics in Science, including devising and implementing appropriate activities
- Take the lead / teach a class when the teacher is working with individual students or small groups of students
- Attend and participate in Science curriculum meetings
- Teach early morning catch up / or intervention sessions with individual students and small groups
- Support staff in dealing with safeguarding issues as appropriate
- Assist with the induction of new staff
- Maintain student progress records
- Contribute to reviews of student’s progress
- Take into account the special needs of students, to aid the student to learn as effectively as possible both in group situations and on his/her own
- Assist with class teacher (and other professionals as appropriate), in the development of a suitable programme of support for students with special needs
- To assist in the line management of and undertake the IPP of other members of the Learning Support Department
- Attend relevant in-service training
- Attend Learning Support meetings and staff meetings when appropriate
- Develop methods of promoting/ reinforcing students’ self-esteem
- Help students organise themselves and their equipment. To explain tasks in class and help to record homework where appropriate
The successful Science Learning and Progress Support Assistant will:

- Be able to work as part of a team, learning with and from other colleagues
- Be able to work independently and on your own initiative
- Have excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Understand confidentiality and safeguarding procedures
- Previous experience of working within a classroom is desirable but not essential
