**Job summary**:
The Defence Safety Authority (DSA) provides independent assurance direct to the Secretary of State that the law is complied with and their policy on safety in Defence is being promoted and implemented whilst Defence activities are conducted.

The Operating Assurance Group (OAG) assures, on behalf of Director MAA, the operation of all Air Systems registered as UK Military Aircraft and provides the main delivery arm of the MAA’s Assurance activity. This highly collaborative role will offer you the opportunity to work within the OAG across the full breadth of our activity and at the heart of a team focussed on analysis, safety risk identification, and assurance of activity in the Defence Air Environment.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

**Job description**:
Responsible for ensuring the processes used to conduct Risk Based Assurance of the Regulated Community are complied with, reviewed and optimised, the assurance you provide will be key in measuring our effectiveness and impact as the regulatory authority responsible for regulating all aspects of Air Safety across Defence.

As the Operating Assurance Compliance Lead, you will be responsible for the conduct of internal assurance activity of the OAG teams and processes utilised in the Risk Based Assurance of the Regulated Community across the Defence Aviation Environment.

Working within a diverse and varied environment you will be key to ensuring that our approach remains compliant and is routinely reviewed and optimised to continuously improve the effectiveness of MAA outputs.

Collaborating across the MAA and with relevant DE&S assurance teams you will seek to maximise opportunities for exploiting the DE&S QA Field Force activity in support of OAG assurance. You will also provide feedback into the development of the Regulatory Publications.

**Key responsibilities**:
**Support the development of the Airworthiness Competence Set (ACS), manage the review of ACS submissions and issuance of Letters of Endorsement (LoE).

Assure that OAG and the Design Organisation Approvals Team are conducting assurance activity and issuing Approvals iaw the Assurance Manual and relevant MAA procedures.

Collaborating with colleagues across the MAA to ensure coherent and effective delivery of outputs and related services; providing advice and guidance as required.

Engage in the development and review of MAA regulations and policy, recommending changes to ensure they remain fit-for-purpose and reflect advances in technology, changes within the Regulated Community and the wider legislative landscape.

Be the lead MAA point of contact for engagement with DE&S QSEP to maximise opportunities for exploiting DQA Field Force activity in support of OAG assurance (including Production Organisation Approval mitigation).

Support audits of the Regulated Community as a Team Member when required.

When capacity exists, be seconded to other areas of the MAA to lead/support short-term collaborative tasks and projects to deliver high priority MAA outputs.

**Person specification**:
You will be expected to have a strong Defence Aviation engineering background, evidence of significant experience of assurance activity and be able to conduct competence assessments which is critical as part of the ACS and LoE process on behalf of Eng DepHd and Dir MAA.

**Qualifications**:

- You will need to hold a minimum of a Level 4 (e.g. HNC) qualification in an engineering or science discipline.

You will be proficient in the use of office IT tools and databases. You will be an effective and accurate communicator (written and verbal).
