**Job summary**:
Part of the Defence Safety Authority (DSA), the Military Aviation Authority (MAA) is the organization responsible for the regulation, surveillance, inspection and assurance of the Defence Air operating and technical domains. It ensures the safe design, maintenance and use of military Air Systems.
As the single regulatory Authority responsible for regulating all aspects of Air Safety across Defence, the MAA has full oversight of all Defence aviation activity. Through independent audit and continuous surveillance of military aviation, the MAA aims to provide the Secretary of State for Defence (SOS), through Director General DSA (DG DSA), the necessary assurance that appropriate standards of Air Safety are maintained in delivering operational capability.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
The International Engagement & Recognition (IE&R) Division is a key enabler within the MAA and is the MAA’s main focal point for International Engagement activity with other military Airworthiness/Aviation regulators and other regulatory bodies (such as the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)). The IE&R Division also engages with the military aviation-related aspects of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the Five Eyes Air Force Interoperability Council (AFIC).
The IE&R Division is also the lead on Airworthiness-related Recognition of other military regulators to enable the UK Defence Air Environment community to utilise artefacts (such as Air System certification activities or organization approvals) as evidence towards compliance with MAA Regulatory Publication requirements.
**Job description**:
The IE&R2 position has specific responsibility to support International Engagement and Recognition with other National MAAs (NMAA). This role is a co-ordinating and supporting function to the Line Manager and sits alongside IE&R1. The specific responsibilities include:
- Co-ordinating queries and requests for International Engagement and Recognition.
- Maintaining the MAA Responses to the Military Authorities Recognition Questionset (MARQ) and co-ordinating the MAA review of other NMAA's MARQ Responses.
- Maintaining the MAA Recognition Presentation and ensuring that it remains coherent with the MAA MARQ Responses and the MAA Recognition Exposition (which is managed by IE&R1).
- Maintaining and updating the Regulatory Framework comparison Workbook and Report.
- Leading on the comparison of Aircraft Technician training requirements with established Military Aircraft Maintenance Licence training requirements.
- Supporting and collaborating with Line Manager and IE&R1 to liaise with MAA stakeholders, in particular Defence Equipment & Support Delivery Teams, to identify potential realisation benefits and to improve understanding of the potential benefits that could be enabled through recognition.
- Co-ordinate the requirements for training and experience of MAA personnel involved in Recognition activities
- Act as the Quality Assurance (QA) representative with corresponding duties for the IE&R Division.
The role will require you taking on additional and emerging tasks related to the IE&R function.
Furthermore, when capacity in the primary role exists, the role holder may be seconded to other areas of the MAA to lead or support short-term collaborative tasks and projects to deliver high priority outputs.
This is a very stimulating and challenging position within the MAA and the high visibility nature of the role offers an excellent development opportunity for those aspiring to achieve higher grades. International travel is required as part of the role.
Development training will be provided relevant to the role once in post. Further development opportunities are available.
**Person specification**:
Seeking a skilled communicator with Aerospace engineering as a career anchor and a good understanding of Airworthiness regulations, either in the Type/Continued or Continuing Airworthiness environment.
Working in the international arena requires an acknowledgement that other Authorities may conduct their business slightly differently compared to the UK, being open-minded to this diversity is necessary.
