Clinical Psychologist

Aylesbury, United Kingdom Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust Full time

We have an exciting opportunity for a clinical psychologist who wishes to develop their clinical skills working with children, young people and adults who are living with diabetes, and their management and service development skills. You will be working in two established services; the paediatric and young persons’ team and the adult diabetes team.

Psychological work with children is embedded in the MDT clinics. The NHS Best Practice Tariff requirements are followed with an annual psychological assessment of all families. There are education groups and service development opportunities because the paediatric team strives to maintain their excellent national clinical results.

Young people (16-18 yrs) with diabetes move into adult clinics via a pathway of care between paediatric and young adult clinics.

The service to adults has a successful and innovative approach integrating an IAPT CBT therapist into the service. This ensures a smooth pathway between the acute hospital and local IAPT Long Term Conditions Service.

You will be part of the BHT Psychological Services Team that consists of 25 clinical psychologists and 7 psychology assistants working with people with physical health conditions.

We would consider 8a applicants who might benefit from a preceptorship programme to move from an 8a to 8b role.

Ideally your working days will be Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday.

The post holder will work across the life span (children & young people with diabetes 0.4 WTE and adults with diabetes 0.2 WTE) and, with psychological therapist colleagues, provide a clinical psychology service in the diabetes multidisciplinary teams.

The focus of work with patients (and their significant others when required) will be to enable people to live well with diabetes. Other aspects of the role include working with the MDT, staff across Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, and colleagues in the Integrated Care System.

We have strong links with the local IAPT service and an IAPT CBT therapist is co-located one day a week with the adult diabetes service. The post holder will be responsible for the supervision of this therapist.

The post holder will work alongside a Consultant Clinical Psychologist (3 sessions), a band 7 clinical psychologist (2 sessions), the CBT therapist and a psychology assistant.
