To lead the participation of people who use services and Carers, across the Collaborative. To to promote improved outcomes for service users and improve service user and carer experience through new insights and perspectives. Working strategically across clinical specialties to inform the development and implementation of strategies that support the broad participation agenda

To provide leadership, advice and practical project work in the development of a culture that is socially inclusive and that values participation and diversity. This includes supporting and maintaining effective communication and contributing to improving staff understanding of the importance of participation and co-production, including in staff and service user training.

The People Participation Lead will have responsibility for developing a system that supports and encourages people getting involved in ways to suit the situation; this could be by facilitating ‘have your say’ groups and forums and by providing 1 to 1 support where required, acting as an advocate for participation and co-production within the Trust and with other external agencies, etc.

To provide relevant participation focused educational and training opportunities for service users, carers and staff via all the mediums available, including through the Recovery College, forums, business and governance meetings or wider engagement events run by the Trust or partner organisation

Duties
- To develop an approach that provides a lived experience perspective to the design and implementation of services alongside the operational, clinical and quality leads.
- To manage a team of Experts by Experience and Family Ambassadors employed by the Provider Collaborative.
- To support multidisciplinary teams working in partnership with service users, carers and their families.
- To develop a pool of service users/carers working in partnership with others to enable effective participation and co-production within the day to day business of the Collaborative, in meetings, interviews, working groups & quality improvement projects
- To work with service users and staff to ensure a high quality, consistent service is offered across all the services
- In collaboration with service user and carer representatives, to lead the development, support or facilitation of service user and carer forums
- To work alongside families and carer groups to increase participation of carers.
- To work with user led groups and movements to complement and enhance local initiatives.
- Be an Equality and Diversity champion within the collaborative and externally help ensure meaningful engagement/involvement with minority and underrepresented groups from diverse communities
- To support joint working between the Collaborative, the voluntary sector and user/carer groups.
- To prepare advice for decision making forums to raise standards of engagement and involvement activities
- To offer training to frontline staff in best practice around meaningful user involvement and empowerment in person centered care and participation.
- To challenge poor practices and offer viable innovative alternatives.
- To promote membership opportunities in the member Trusts’ organisations to service users and carers, and support their involvement in membership activity
- To maintain and uphold the values and behaviors of the Collaborative and to challenge inappropriate behaviour constructively.

Key Responsibilities

**The role involves, but is not limited to**:

- Communication and Stakeholders engagement: providing and receiving
- Complex, sensitive or contentious information appropriately to the situation.
- Information about servicer user and carer involvement for the locality or clinical grouping, presenting to groups of staff or key stakeholders.
- Specialist advice, signposting and support on participation and involvement opportunities.
- Provide expert-by-experience advice to relevant Collaborative Panels and Committees.
- Planning, organising, coordinating and supporting meetings, workshops, innovative events, etc. re user/carer involvement activities which include all stakeholders in us
