**The Vacancy**
Following the success and growth of the sporting and third-party mass participation portfolio (5% increase in income) over the past two years, we want to ensure we are set up to deliver the future growth ambition that will see Mass Participation & Sporting Events income grow from £4.9m in 25/26, up to £10m in 2033.
You will be responsible for delivering the mass participation strategy to drive significant income and grow our supporter base from the sporting challenge and owned ARUK mass participation events portfolio
- including ARUK Walk for A Cure Walking Series.
Reporting into the Director of Supporter Led Fundraising and working with the wider Supporter Led Fundraising department, this role will put the Alzheimer’s Research UK front of mind with supporters taking on mass fundraising third-party events, and with the third-party events companies themselves, making us charity of choice. The role will work closely with teams and Heads of Department across the organisation, particularly, Strategic Marketing, Relationship Fundraising Team, Corporate Partnerships, Data and Digital.
This role will be known internally as Head of Sporting Events*
This is a 12-month Fixed Term Contract, or on return of the substantive post holder, to cover a period of maternity leave.
**MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Work with the Director of Supporter Led Fundraising, alongside fellow Heads to plan, implement and deliver the 2033 Fundraising & Marketing Strategy within Alzheimer’s Research UK
- Directly line manage x2 and oversee team of x12.
- Lead and inspire the Sporting Events Team and Product Development team, ensuring that they are working as effectively and efficiently as possible, communicating the departmental strategy to drive fundraising at all levels.
- Grow the third-party sporting events programme and sporting partnerships at Alzheimer’s Research UK, in line with agreed targets
- Grow the ARUK owned mass participation product portfolio, in line with agreed targets.
- Ensure we have a robust investment strategy around our third-party sporting events and ARUK owned Mass Participation programme that will maximise the income potential
- Drive innovation and insight in the team and ensure we are providing market leading experiences for our supporters and investing in new and upcoming products.
- Work proactively across the charity to ensure that all fundraising opportunities and potential communications channels are maximised
- To play a key role as part of the Fundraising and Marketing leadership team within Alzheimer’s Research UK
- Manage/Grow/Support key relationships with mass participation organisers, agencies, industry boards and partners
**Leadership and People Management**
- Drive the success of the team through effective and inspiring leadership to ensure a highly motivated team which achieves the targets agreed with the Director of Supporter Led Fundraising
- Performance manage the team, driving a culture of excellence, accountability and tackling underperformance where necessary
- Develop and deliver systems and structure across the sporting events team to enable both effective day to day management and long-term strategic leadership
- Work collaboratively across ARUK leading cross functional teams and activities to drive the culture within the team as one of excellent relationship management, target driven and excellent performance
**Strategy and planning**
- Lead on the development of the overall ARUK owned mass participation strategy to deliver excellent supporter relationships, partnerships and products to achieve further transformational growth
- Work with the innovation programme board to drive insight led decision making and product development within sporting events and mass participation products
- Responsibility for the development and delivery of the 5-year strategy across third-party sporting events
**Budget management and reporting**
- Ensure that all financial targets are met and that the team is managed in the most cost-effective way possible
- Compile 5-year forecasts and annual budgets in line with Operational planning across all sporting events fundraising
- Manage the team to deliver quarterly reforecasts, making recommendations around budget allocation and managing expectations throughout.
- Ensure any necessary mitigation planning is carried out to achieve budget.
- Provide monthly commentary on budget and quarterly narrative to be included in trustee reporting.
**WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR**:
- Demonstrable and relevant experience working at a senior/Head level in mass participation and third-party sporting events and influencing senior leadership teams.
