The role of the Hub Officer is to Enable Welsh Rugby to Thrive and develop individuals through rugby union delivery within the establishment and local community.
The Hub Officer will be required to Enable Welsh Rugby to thrive via activity that engages participants of all abilities within a fully inclusive rugby programme. Including developing individuals as coaches, referees, administrators and volunteers, as well as participants (regardless of ability and gender) with established links to all education, WRU and Community Stakeholders.
In a school, the Hub Officer will primarily be required to promote and develop rugby in curriculum time, and to establish extra-curricular activity which engages boys and girls of all abilities within a fully inclusive rugby programme - including development as coaches, referees, administrators and volunteers, as well as participants with established links to club/cluster and community provision.
The Hub Officer will be required to drive programmes of participation which recruit or retain participants within the game after the age of 16, while also contributing to the wider development of rugby within associated feeder schools, including development of coaches, referees, administrators and volunteers, with established links to club/cluster and community provision.
Key Responsibilities
To encourage and support males and females to transition into local community clubs, clusters or alternative offerings, as appropriate
To support the Local Hub Steering Group in developing objectives and targets for the Hub programme, as appropriate, and to work towards the fulfilment of these
To support the objectives of the Educational settings such as raising standards of academic attainment, student engagement and enrichment, community cohesion, and student recruitment
Without limitation, to perform all such other duties, and do all such other things, as may be considered necessary to fulfil the objectives of the WRU Hub Programme as agreed with the Educational setting
To encourage and support males and females to transition from feeder schools to the college
Work with local partners to provide suitable player development opportunities for males and females
Provide targeted holiday provision at Local Rugby Clubs
Promote the WRU Digital Classroom to all educational establishments in the local community
Drive SEN rugby provision in Wales through delivering SEN sessions and supporting local, regional and national events
To be able to deliver an elite* level rugby session to the Coleg Sir Gâr rugby academy players
Provide position specific training to the elite* players of the Coleg Sir Gâr rugby academy
Provide detailed position specific performance feedback to the elite* players of the Coleg Sir Gâr rugby academy
To be able to provide a detailed team review and preview for the Coleg Sir Gâr first team
To support & develop the WRU & Regional Talent Pathway for Players & Coaches in Wales.
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
**Essential Criteria**:
A current Rugby Coaching qualification at minimum level 1
Emergency First Aid at Work qualification (if not held, undertake and achieve within an agreed timescale)
MiDAS minibus driver’s qualification (if not held, undertake and achieve within an agreed timescale)
Level 2 WRU/RFU rugby coaching qualification (or higher)
Involvement as a player or coach in an elite rugby environment
Minimum 12 months’ experience working within rugby development and coaching at an academy or in an elite rugby environment
Relevant experience working within sports development and/or community development
Experience of coaching and/or working with children and young people
Experience and understanding of health and safety requirements in a rugby or sporting environment
**Desirable Criteria**:
Rugby referee qualification (WRU Level 1)
Safeguarding Children and Young People training/qualification
Experience of working in a primary, secondary or further education environment
Ability to use IT systems to review performance
**Welsh Language Requirements**:
Welsh Oracy (Listening/Speaking) - Level 0/1
Welsh Literacy (Writing/Reading) - Level 0/1
