**Job summary**:
The Home Office has one of the most challenging and critical jobs in Whitehall: to keep Britain safe, secure our Borders and protect the vulnerable. We operate at the heart of the Government's agenda, leading on immigration and passports, drugs policy, crime policy, counter-extremism and counter-terrorism and state threats, and work to ensure visible, responsive and accountable policing in the UK.
The challenges the Department faces are significant and can change rapidly in the global environment in which we operate, making this one of the most exciting and stimulating Government Departments in which to work.
This Team Leader role is within the Performance Reporting & Analysis Unit, leading on the provision of management information and performance analysis to support the Citizenship, Passports and Civil Registration directorate.
Part of the Home Office Analysis & Insight directorate, the Performance Reporting & Analysis Unit (PRAU) provides reporting and analysis of performance for the Migration & Borders Mission and associated operational Capabilities. We support Ministers, the Executive Committee, Policy and Operational leads and other analytical functions with the management information (MI) that they need, as well as producing data for publication and other forms of external release. The Unit also provides advice and support to others in the Department on how to make best use of performance information and is leading on the transformation of MI systems and capabilities.
PRAU is spread geographically across the country and as the majority of the team you will manage is based in London, there will be a requirement to travel to London on a relatively frequent basis, if you are based in another location.
In line with HO Hybrid Working policy, this post can be based at any of the locations listed and there will be flexibility to adopt a hybrid working pattern which would see the post holder spend 40% of their week in the office, with the remainder working from home.
**Job description**:
In this role you will lead a team of analysts / data / management information specialists who provide performance reporting and MI support to the Customer Services Capability within the Department, and specifically the Passports, Citizenship, and Civil Registration (PCCR) directorate - with the majority of the focus being on supporting HM Passport Office.
You will ensure that the day-to-day operation of the team - producing regular reports and ad hoc data and analysis - delivers a high-quality service to your direct customers in the PCCR directorate as well as others with a dependency on reporting related to that area (for example the centres of the Capability, Mission and Home Office), working with other teams in PRAU as needed.
You will also lead development of the team’s services, responding to changes in operational data systems and sources, and looking to make best use of new reporting technologies and approaches.
Throughout you will develop and maintain strong relationships with your immediate customers in PCCR, as well as others in PRAU and other parts of the Department, to ensure that the service you provide meets the needs of those who depend upon it.
Responsibilities will also include:
- Making a major contribution to the Department’s analysis of issues related to the areas above within the migration and borders system. You will be expected to become a trusted and innovative adviser to senior operational and policy staff, and a major contributor to the overall work of PRAU.
- Leading a hard-working team of experienced staff specialising in management information report development, stakeholder management and, increasingly, analytical work.
- Supporting, coaching, and mentoring the team to further develop their expertise in performance reporting and data analysis, as well as managing their workflow.
- Managing and prioritising the team’s workload, to ensure that their wide-ranging customer base is served appropriately.
- Ensuring that the data the team produces for public release as part of the Department’s commitment to the transparency agenda is accurate and relevant.
- Working closely with other teams in PRAU, and the wider Home Office analytical community, where necessary, to collaborate over information provision and analysis, and respond to workload pressures where needed.
- Contributing to leadership of the Unit throu
