**Summary**:
The Home Office has one of the most challenging and critical jobs in Whitehall: to keep Britain safe and secure. We operate at the heart of the Government's agenda, leading on immigration and passports, drugs policy, crime policy, counter-extremism and counter-terrorism and work to ensure visible, responsive and accountable policing in the UK. The challenges the Department faces are significant and can change rapidly in the global environment in which we operate, making this one of the most exciting and stimulating Government Departments in which to work.
Data is the second most important asset for the Home Office, after its staff. The Home Office’s Data and Identity (D&I) Directorate’s vision is that we will use data and information as strategic assets for the public good. D&I sits within the Science, Technology, Analysis, Research (STAR) Group and collaborates with partners to make the vision for data and adoption of data driven technologies a reality. It helps transform how the Home Office and sector look after and use data and data driven technologies to meet Government’s strategic objectives, build a Modern Civil Service and maintain the highest levels of public trust and confidence.
This is a unique and exciting opportunity to work within the Data Capability Centre (DCC), a vibrant team at the heart of the D&I Directorate, and to lead work at the heart of the Government’s data transformation.
There are nine initiatives within the One Home Office (OHO) suite of data projects. OHO Data Quality is an exciting area of work that touches on all of the other initiatives and will ensure that data across the Home Office Family is captured accurately and in a consistent format to enable data sharing.
The work of the team is fast paced, high profile and stretching. We are therefore looking for a high-performing, enthusiastic and inquisitive self-starter with strong delivery and communication skills to drive forward the team’s work on this significant One Home Office agenda.
**Job description**:
The job holder will take a crucial role in delivering the Home Office’s data vision, working closely with portfolio management functions as well as other OHO data initiative leads. They will develop and deliver data quality solutions that align with the needs of the community (skills; leadership and culture; processes and standards; tools and architectures; data governance).
At its heart, this role includes:
- Building DCC relationships with the Home Office Data community, to ensure that the Home Office approach to Data Quality is consistent, effective, and simplified.
- Coalescing the Home Office Data Quality community around the data vision and bringing that vision to life for all parts of the business.
- Working with customers and stakeholders from across the Home Office sector to build a community of customers, users and data specialists who can work together to drive value from Home Office data - for ourselves and for wider HMG.
Please note that the role can be based in any of the locations listed and there will be flexibility to adopt a hybrid working pattern which would see the post holder spend part of their week working from home.
**Responsibilities**:
Responsibilities will include:
- Leading the implementation of a data quality governance and standards for data capture and new system design. This will include establishing and publishing agreed data quality standards and governance for data capture and new system design across the Home Office.
- Leading the implementation of a data quality prioritisation, measurement and reporting best practice approach. This will include defining and publishing a consistent approach to data quality prioritisation, measurement, and reporting.
- Socialising high impact data quality case studies and quantifying the cost of poor data quality.
- Ensuring that the DCC lead and drive new activities/solutions, co-ordinate and align existing activities/solutions, and influence and shape a community of interest.
- Taking a corporate leadership role in the DCC, contributing to the well-being and effective running of the team.
- Developing and maintaining a delivery plan with long-term key milestones and objectives (and metrics which can be used to track and measure progress), working with senior stakeholders to se
