Have you ever wondered how changes to the public footpaths, bridleways and byways in Cambridgeshire are carried out? Now is your opportunity

We are seeking a team member to help maintain and develop the Council’s Public Rights of Way (PROW) records, Town and Village Green records and the Commons register. You’ll also be advising other services, stakeholders and the public in relation to these services.

What will you be doing?
As a Definitive Map Officer your responsibilities will include:

- Providing input for Planning Applications and Major Infrastructure Schemes to protect and improve public access, taking into account Active Travel and health and well-being initiatives
- Consultations and negotiations with the public, partner organisations and developers on proposed changes to the network
- Updating the legal record of PROWs: the Definitive Map and Statement
- Maintaining records for Landowner Deposits, Town & Village Greens and Commons
- Documentary research
- Report writing, involving consideration of Council Policies, consultation responses & relevant legislation
- Putting forward recommendations for decision to the Assistant Director, Highways Maintenance
- Making Legal Orders

Ownership of cases including:

- Applications for claimed PROW
- Applications for other changes to the PROW network
- Applications for Town and Village Greens

About you
- You will have excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and organise a broad workload effectively, working on your own initiative to meet deadlines.
- You should possess good report writing, map reading and interpretation skills, together with a strong investigative and methodical approach.
- A high standard of written and verbal communication is essential. Whilst experience of working with highway records, asset management, fieldwork, relevant legislation, and/or digital mapping is desirable, on-the-job training will be provided and we welcome applicants with relevant transferrable skills.
- With excellent interpersonal skills, you enjoy working co-operatively as part of teams, networks, and with different stakeholders.
- Flexible, willing, and adaptable, and able to carry out site visits across the county.
