Outreach Worker
Are you looking to make a difference to the lives of People Experiencing Homelessness in Worcestershire? If so, we are currently looking for a passionate Outreach Worker to work within our Outreach Team here at Maggs Day Centre.
**Maggs Day Centre provides the basics, a lifeline to help people survive the worst of what life throws at them.**
Maggs was founded in 1984 after a homeless man died after years of sleeping rough on the streets. His death prompted members of several local churches to come together and form an action group. Their work led to a day centre being created in the former St Albans church, dedicated to helping people experiencing homeless in Worcester. Since then, we have expanded opening an 2nd Day Centre in Malvern, we have an Outreach Team who work in the community, a Clothing Project where people experiencing homelessness can get clean clothes and supplies, and most recently we have set up our accommodation project to provide temporary housing with support from Tenancy Sustainment Workers, with a view to tenants having the skills and confidence to secure permanent housing.
**Want to know more? Here’s what we need from you**:
- To end the cycle of homelessness and rough sleeping throughout Worcestershire. Your role is to “engage the unengaged” which means you need to be patient, resilient and adapt well to ever changing situations. Your role is very varied as you cannot predict who or what you will see on a daily basis, keeping a level head is a must.
- Working in line with Maggs procedures to support People experiencing Homelessness in working towards meeting their goal. You should work hard to recognize and understand what goals the team and service users are working towards; we do not operate “a one size fits all” approach and this needs to be reflected in the way you work.
- Working collaboratively with relevant agencies to deliver the best quality of service for the client tailored to the individual’s needs. You will be liaising with a range of other services on behalf of our service users including Housing Associations, Benefits Agencies, Medical Agencies, and other organisations dedicated to helping rough sleepers in Worcestershire. You need to feel confident advocating for the people we work with and building relationships with other agencies to ensure we can achieve the goals that our service users have set.
- Staff must be approachable, friendly, and helpful and work well within a small team. You should have a ‘can do’ attitude, be reliable and flexible and ‘pull your weight’. In addition, you should understand the importance communication plays to work effectively in a team of people irrespective of whether they are paid or volunteers.
- The scheme is relatively small and relies on colleagues filling in for each other. Everyone is therefore expected to carry out other duties and responsibilities, as requested, providing they do not alter the general level and character of this job description.
We warmly welcome applicants from black, minority, ethnic (BME) communities, disabled people and lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) communities, as they are currently under represented within our workforce - this diversity is vital to our journey and is fundamental to our values and enriches the service we offer the people we work with.
**What’s in it for you?**
In return, we offer £ 22,700 per annum for a 37-hour week.

**Benefits**:
- On-site parking
