These are exciting times and with the recent expansion and remodelling of the Lewisham & Greenwich Trust Maternity Services, an opportunity has arisen for a Maternity Care Assistant to join our Multi - Professional Team, on a 1 year secondment, in its deliverance of high quality care to our women and their families.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Maternity Care Assistant to join our wonderful team in the Maternity Day Assessment Unit, in its deliverance of high-quality care to our women and their families. The role comprises of a variety of shifts, working long days of 11.5 hour shifts Monday to Friday and 7.5 hour shifts on the weekend
**You will be required to but not limited to**:
Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene within all clinical areas i.e. cleaning delivery rooms, theatre, equipment, making beds and keeping a good stock supply.
Assist the midwives in the care of women/birthing people antenatally and postnatally to ensure that planned programmes of care are provided.
Participate in maintaining the general personal hygiene needs of women where required; this includes toileting, bed bathing and oral hygiene.
Be aware of the general condition and wellbeing of women/birthing people and babies by close observation and report any deviation from the norm immediately to a qualified member of the multi-professional team.

The Maternity Care Assistant will be part of the multidisciplinary team in the clinical setting. The post
holder is working under the direct / indirect supervision of a midwife in providing a high quality service
that meets the needs of women/birthing people and their babies. They will contribute to ensuring a
safe and clean working environment.
**Key Responsibilities**:
Clinical
To participate in the provision of 24-hour cover for the unit, including flexibility to move within team areas as the service requires.
To maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene within all clinical areas i.e. cleaning delivery rooms, theatre, equipment, making beds and keeping a good stock supply.
To assist the midwives in the care of women/birthing people antenatally, during labour and postnatally to ensure that planned programmes of care are provided.
To participate in maintaining the general personal hygiene needs of women/birthing people where required; this includes toileting, bed bathing and oral hygiene.
To assist in the provision of food and drink to women/birthing people.
To be aware of the general condition and wellbeing of women/birthing people and babies by close observation and report any deviation from the norm immediately to a qualified member of the multi-professional team.
To assist women/birthing people and their partners in the care of their babies, i.e. nappy changing, bathing and infant feeding.
Be pro-active in supporting women/birthing people to breast feed their babies and give them the advice and assistance they require according to the national and trust guidelines.
To maintain accurate records of all care provision in the clinical records.
To escort patients to different clinical areas within the unit.
To work in theatre when required, as a ‘runner’.
To act as a chaperone.
Administrative
To assist in the administrative duties within the unit, including updating the bed board, answering telephone calls and forwarding messages to the midwife.
Governance
To maintain confidentiality at all times.
To maintain a safe environment for families, visitors and staff.
To participate in the audit of standards within the unit.
Adhere to all Trust Policies and Health & Safety.
To ensure that all Trust infection control policies are strictly adhered to.
To report any concerns regarding patient care, safety and/or environment to the midwife in charge.
