Through sharing the wisdom from own lived experience, the Peer Support Worker (PSW) will inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible in others.

The team here at CAMEO (Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Assessing, Managing and Enhancing Outcomes) is a mental health service for people who are struggling with distressing experiences like hearing voices or feeling paranoid.

They offer two parts to their service, those that may be at high risk of developing a mental health problem such as psychosis and those that may be experiencing their first episode of psychosis.

The team offers
- Psychological therapies
- Medical consultation
- Emotional support
- Practical help with housing and finances
- Support with education and employment
- Physical health assessment with targeted interventions as required.

They also offer family and carer support and work with individuals and their families for up to two years in our At-Risk service and three years in the First Episode service.

This role is part time, permanent and will be a hybrid of office, home and community work based within Peterborough and surrounding areas.

As an integral and highly valued member of the multi-disciplinary team, the PSW will provide formalised peer support and practical assistance to peers and other service users for them to regain control over their lives and their own unique recovery process.

Within a relationship of mutuality, the PSW will facilitate and support information sharing to promote choice, self-determination and opportunities for the fulfilment of socially valued roles and connection to local communities.

To provide recovery focused interventions through ongoing support, practical assistance, and problem resolution under the supervision of a senior team member. The post holder will have a specific role supporting service users and carers on entry into the service.

The PSW will take a lead role in embedding recovery values within CAMEO, and act as an ambassador of Recovery for the Trust with external agencies and partner organisations.

Reporting to the team manager, or other designated person, under the professional supervision of the Peer Support Worker Professional Lead, they will be responsible for the delivery of peer support interventions as agreed within the peer relationship and feeding into the CPA process.

- Help individuals identify their own achievable and meaningful recovery goals and set recovery objectives, drawing on your mutual resources as peers and utilising a range of recovery tools, techniques and experience.
- Model personal responsibility, self-awareness, self-belief, self-advocacy and hopefulness via the telling of own recovery story to inspire and instil confidence in peers.
- Accompany peers and other service users to appointments/meetings of their choice and perform a range of practical tasks, aligned to recovery goals.
- Act as a positive role model showing professional and caring attitudes and behaviour towards other multi-disciplinary team members, peers, other service users and carers.
- Have a focus on the rights of peers and other service users at all times.
