You will lead materials experts in the delivery of a wide range of component technology programmes and related inorganic and organic materials development and assessment activities.

**Science Manager - Conventional Materials**

**Location**: Reading / Basingstoke area

The Science Manager will be responsible for:

- Leading, coaching and developing a team at a local level to deliver team and personal objectives safely and securely to meet operational plans
- Assessing staff performance, measured against agreed personal objectives and accountabilities, and taking corrective action to improve performance where necessary via appropriate management interventions
- Providing knowledge and expertise in the field of technical specialism
- The technical quality of the work undertaken by the team through appropriate internal (_i.e._ with Subject Matter Experts) and external reviews
- Ensuring that the work undertaken by the team is consistent with AWE strategy, policies, processes, procedures, and quality standards while minimising risk to delivery of the Integrated Technical Programme
- Knowledge capture in order to maintain, share, preserve and protect IP
- Undertaking other duties as reasonably required from time to time by line and task management
- Maintain and promote high personal standards in environment, safety, health, security and quality and be a great team player

Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- Competence in the use of MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
- Knowledge and skills in a technical area such as Analytical techniques
- Strategic and tactical planning skills
- Ideally experience of successfully managing a high performing and motivated team
- Proven track record of driving delivery, performance and continuous improvement
- Demonstrates a working appreciation of financial and business requirements
