National Highways is looking for a skilled and organised Admin Team Leader to join the Regional InvestmentProgramme (RIP), within the Major Projects (MP) directorate, based in Birmingham.

RIP is one of four programmes within National Highways Major Projects Directorate. Major Projects is responsible for the delivery of nearly 70 projects with a total value of more than £14 billion, and some of the most exciting and challenging projects inthe country. National Highway’s goal is to change the industry: to make roads and their construction and maintenance safer; to be more responsive to the needs of our customers, particularly about biodiversity and carbon; and to exploit the digital agenda anddrive the productivity agenda to improve delivery.

Major Projects focus on the delivery of sensitive and complex projects; growing individual talent and our organisational capacity to be successful. We strive to be creative and exploit digital and technological opportunities whilst maintaining the higheststandards in Safety, Health, Wellbeing and Customer Service to deliver great projects.

This role will require you to lead, strengthen and coordinate a team of project support staff to provide essential project administration activities and excellent customer service to deliver over £1.6Bn of projects. You will also manage their ongoing development,performance and wellbeing to create an experienced, agile and resilient team that can best support delivery of the region’s multi £Million road schemes.

What you’ll be leading on

- Lead a Project Support administrative team in a fast-paced environment to ensure the delivery of a high-quality project support service.
- Produce reports, presentations and other documents, collating and analysing relevant information and statistics from identified sources to support others in the delivery of their business objectives and to support effective management decision making.
- Monitor the performance of the team, ensuring all line management responsibilities are fulfilled, including performance management, attendance management and supporting staff in their ongoing development.
- Resource management and workforce planning through engagement with the project management teams and Senior Leadership Team to ensure full understanding of their project support needs and develop and co-ordinate resource plans for all roles so sufficientresources are available to project managers when required.
- Answer standard and non-standard enquiries, including those escalated by the team, and act as a point of contact internally and externally, providing information to stakeholders to support service delivery, customer service, and management decision making.
- Manage and deliver allocated project work, ensuring it is delivered in accordance with the brief and to a high standard.

To be successful you’ll need
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and the ability to draft correspondence and communications in response to customer enquiries
- Experience of mentoring and coaching to improve or enhance performance of others
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise different tasks.
- Customer-focused approach to work, with experience of liaising with both internal and external stakeholders of all levels.
- Experience of improving processes or enhancing services
- IT-literate and proficient in the use of a range of software packages, including Microsoft Office and Microsoft Teams
