**Advanced Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling**

**Terms**

This role is a part-time position
10 hours per week, based in St Albans with some home working and visits to training venues in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire

**Salary**: £30,030 per annum pro rata

**Overview**

To be responsible for the delivery of the Advanced Diploma course, under the direction of the Director of Training for St Albans and Bedford.

**The Counselling Foundation **is a modern charity with a well-established reputation in the field of counselling and psychotherapy for over 40 years. Our mission is to deliver affordable psychological therapy, to train counsellors and provide services to organisations and the NHS.

We are an organisational member of BACP and our training courses are accredited and validated by BACP. All staff, honoraries, volunteers and therapists in training are thus accountable to the ethical requirements of these organisations and to their complaints procedures.

There are 3 strands to the services we provide:

- Provision of charitable subsidised counselling
- Provision of short-term work to NHS clients, EAP clients and other contracts
- Counselling Training programmes including short personal development courses

**Accountability**

**Directly accountable to**: Director of Training

**Responsibilities**
- To arrange and implement the Advanced Diploma course programme each year.
- To organise assessment procedures and collate material for:

- Entry to the Advanced Diploma Courses each year.
- Essays and student assessments for mid-year and end of year
- Help recruit/appoint Seminar Tutors for each course
- Arrange ‘shadowing’ / co-tutoring for potential staff where appropriate
- Monitor via periodic inspections, student feedback and an annual appraisal the performance of Seminar Tutors
- Review, develop and monitor course material in consultation with teaching staff and the Director of Training
- Attend monthly Training Management Committee (TMC) meetings and present reports
- Chair or attend meetings of Advanced Diploma teaching team as required
- Arrange twice yearly tutorials with all Advanced Diploma students
- Consider and investigate as appropriate the development of courses in new areas
- Monitor staff performance through student feedback, staff meetings and 6-monthly review where appropriate
- To liaise with the Director of Training as appropriate
- Undertake any other tasks or responsibilities as reasonably required by the Director of Training
- Reach out and develop links with other community agencies where there are common aims to support vulnerable adults through listening and providing counselling skills
- Be available to attend on a regular basis at Bedford and St Albans during Advanced Diploma course times (currently Monday & Tuesdays mornings - Bedford and Wednesday all day - St Albans)

**Person Specification**

**Competencies**
- 5 GCSE’s (Including English and Maths) or equivalent
- Competent in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel
- Openness to train and adapt as the role evolves
- Driving licence and own car desirable but not essential
- To have a desire to work in a pastoral capacity with student’s needs
- To be able to demonstrate management and administrative skills and attitudes and to demonstrate the ability to meet deadlines and prioritise

**Qualifications**:
Essential:

- Trained with a recognised training organisation whose orientation is in psychodynamic counselling / psychodynamic psychotherapy
- Experience of working within a counselling agency and be able to work with others involved in the provision of the training programme
- A practising psychodynamic counsellor / psychodynamic psychotherapist registered with a recognised professional body and be in good standing with that professional body; to be accredited or working towards accreditation with that professional body. (Applicants confirm that they have no suspensions with their accrediting body)
- To have some knowledge or experience of assessment procedures and assessing students / trainees
- To have good IT skills and be prepared to extend personal experience in working online
- To be familiar with the BACP Ethical Framework of Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy and always ensure that they work within that framework and ensure that students are also familiar with the framework
- To understand the relevance of the Foundation Certificate and the Diploma course in The Counselling Foundation training programme and to have an overview of the conten
