Clinical Fellow in Urology ST3+
The Bristol Urological Institute wishes to appoint a Clinical Fellow in Urology, initially for one year with further extension dependent on satisfactory progress.
Please note North Bristol NHS Trust will not pay any interview expenses in connection with this post.
Responsibility is to all three NBT Weston urology consultants - Mr D Dickerson, Mr J L Probert & Mr M Goh as well as to visiting SMH consultants Mr A Manjunath, Mr E Rowe, Mr R Pal.
Work of the Department. The cases dealt with in Weston are mainly General Urology with a tertiary referral service provided for urethroplasty and penile cancer. The department offers primary management of all common urological conditions. Cases requiring specialised management are referred to Southmead Hospital.
Ward Duties
1. To be present on the ward Monday to Friday for ward round
2. To supervise and assist the F1, CT2 and Staff Grade in the care of ward patients
3. On-Call
- daytime on-call responsibilities involve seeing emergencies and ward referrals, alternating weekly with another clinical fellow. This arrangement allows, in the week not on-call, gaining of experience in theatre, out-patients and diagnostics
Audit / Study / Research
1. To participate in the all stages of the audit process, including conception, data retrieval & analysis, and presentation.
2. To use study time appropriately for preparation for the FRCS Urol examination, or to prepare talks on suitable urological topics for presentation at the monthly audit meetings.
3. To participate in research topics being run by the department
4. To continue & complete any outstanding research projects including writing up of papers and / or thesis.
Southmead Hospital and Weston Hospital offers a comprehensive Urology service through the Bristol Urological Institute. The Institute is a tertiary referral Centre and has gained a global reputation and has become a major National and International Education Centre. The teaching program has evolved into an increasing number of national meetings, including operative courses, and an impressive database of research publications has been achieved. The BUI has a dedicated Learning and Research Facility.
The Department has 3 dedicated theatres (including a Robotic Theatre), an Outpatients Department, a Urodynamics Service as well as an on-site Lithotripsy Service serviced by the latest Stortz Modulith SLX-F2. There is a large Intensive Care Unit and Renal Transplant Unit on site which supports the work of the Department.
The BUI has a Da Vinci Robot in a dedicated theatre to support its oncological work as the Network Centre for the South West. We are proud to be a Teaching Hospital. The Department is committed to providing a number of highly specialised services as well as routine procedures, and attracts a large number of inpatient and outpatient referrals from outside the District. All general urological services are offered, with specialist services in the following areas: Urological Cancer Management, Functional and Reconstructive Urology, Stone Disease Management and Renal Failure.
