**Then National Highways have the perfect role for you**

We’re looking for a Principal Transport Planner to join our Transport Planning Group. In this key position you will ensure the feasibility and achievability of the company’s infrastructure plans. This is a varied role and will involve developing a team of transport planners to provide specialised insight and technical expertise in transport planning to guide key areas of the business.

You will lead innovation in transport modelling techniques, transport appraisals and work alongside others to identify problems within the transport network, proposing solutions where necessary.

This is a hybrid role requiring 2 office days per week based in one of regional offices (Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Bedford, Bristol or Exeter) and 1-2 days travelling per month to other National Highways and supplier offices throughout England.

**What you’ll be leading on**
- Providing leadership within the Transport Planning Group with responsibility for overseeing the work of a team of senior transport planners and transport planners.
- Mentoring and ensuring the continual development of the team’s skills and technical expertise.
- Acting as a focal point for transport planning knowledge and expertise, undertaking research and/or developing new bespoke approaches as necessary.

**To be successful you’ll need**
- In-depth level of technical knowledge and experience that could be characterised by a significant time spent in the industry and preferably accompanied by a MSc in Transport Planning or similar.
- Experience of specifying and building transport models, including policy, highway, public transport and variable demand elements.
- Broad understanding of current transport appraisal, with the ability to specify and develop new tools and techniques for the future.
- A good understanding of transport planning datasets, including GPS-based and mobile-phone sourced datasets, the National Trip End Model and National Travel Survey.
- Leadership experience with strong people management skills.
- The ability to convey complex ideas effectively by all available means of communication.

We deliver critical analytical support, provide strategic direction for our customer service imperative, partner with colleagues across the business to devise and deliver communications activities, and we shape, lead and drive the overall transformation of National Highways.
