OverviewJoin to apply for the Principal Transport Planner role at WSP in the UK & Ireland.We are recruiting a Principal Transport Planner to join our Midlands, Northern England or Scotland regions. This role can be based from the Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester or Newcastle offices, with hybrid working allowing for a mix of in‑office and home working.ResponsibilitiesUndertaking Transport Statements, Transport Assessments, Environmental Statement Transport Chapters, and Travel Plans, including engaging in client and local authority scoping discussions.Lead technical discussions around accessibility of project/construction sites for various modes, and articulate impacts and mitigations to support planning approvals.Collaborate in a multi-disciplinary environment and work with adjacent teams such as noise, air quality, ecology, and highway teams.Take ownership of delegated tasks such as preparing fee estimates and proposals for review by Project Directors.Be flexible and upskill to enable work across other transport workstreams (e.g., communications and engagement) to support a sustainable workflow for the local team.Represent WSP values in a collaborative client/consultant environment while delivering work for clients.Keep up‑to‑date with relevant standards and policies; raise WSP profile through networking and attending conferences.Ensure projects are delivered to budget, programme, and required technical standards.Provide mentoring or line management for developing professionals.What We Will Be Looking For You To DemonstrateExperience as lead author of Scoping Reports, Transport Assessments and Environmental Statement Transport Chapters.Experience delivering a wide range of transport planning projects across areas such as development planning, energy/industrial sectors, highway schemes, sustainable transport, active travel, and junction design; knowledge of relevant standards.Experience in preparing Local Authority Transport Plans and Strategies; experience in transport feasibility studies, option assessment reports and inputs into transport-related business cases is beneficial.Strong numerical, spatial, and analytical skills with excellent MS Office knowledge.Ability to produce project reports and technical documents to a high standard, and to communicate technical arguments to both technical and non-technical audiences.Knowledge of current transport policy at sub-regional, regional and national levels; understanding of financial and contractual aspects of planning, bidding, and delivering projects of varying scale.Don’t quite meet all the criteria?
