Consultant Geriatrician

We are looking for a colleague to join us as a Consultant Geriatrician, working on a substantive basis at St George’s Hospital, Tooting.
Supported by a highly skilled multi-disciplinary team, the post holder will deliver clinical leadership to the Older People’s Assessment and Liaison (OPAL) team and inpatient care to the Acute Senior Health Unit (ASHU) on Marnham Ward on a rotational basis.
With the OPAL team, the post holder will provide Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA), delivering high quality care and avoidance of unnecessary admission to older adults living with frailty in the Acute Medical Unit (AMU) and Emergency Department (ED). In ASHU, the appointee will hold clinical responsibility for half of the patients on the ward. With the multidisciplinary team, the post holder will deliver acute Geriatric Medicine and CGA to older adults with frailty admitted to the ward, aiming for rapid, safe discharge home through integrated working with the local community trust.
There will also be opportunity to develop and deliver specialist interests on a sessional basis in other areas.
St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust serves a resident population of about 300,000, is located within the South West London ICS and serves six local boroughs, primarily Merton and Wandsworth. The Trust is one of the largest healthcare units in the UK, accommodating 1070 beds and annually treating around 61,500 inpatients as well as over 420,000 outpatients. The Trust provides general acute services together with tertiary services including neurosciences, cardiothoracic, and specialist children’s services.
St George’s Hospital is the main teaching hospital in the western sector of the South Thames region and has developed links with most of the regional district general hospitals. It supports a significant training programme for junior doctors that rotate through the Trust.
