Lifting Appointed Person

Balfour Beatty Vinci has an exciting opportunity for an **Lifting Appointed Person** to join our team based in Coventry

**What you’ll be doing**

As an **Lifting Appointed Person** you’ll be working alongside our Construction team helping to deliver the biggest civils infrastructure project in the UK.

Some of the duties you will have include:

- Responsible for the management, organisation, planning and control of all aspects of a lifting operation.

A register of lifting operations in the area under their control is maintained and is used to adequately plan and manage lifting operations. Effective lift planning is conducted and recorded including lift categories, Lift Plans, risk assessments, method statements, drawings and other relevant information and that Lift Plans are appropriately reviewed.
- Suitable lifting equipment and lifting accessories for the lifting operation are selected, ensuring any complex, bespoke or unusual lifting arrangements are approved, and detailing how they will be utilised.
- The size, roles and responsibilities of the team undertaking a lift is planned and recorded.
- Assessment of Crane Supervisors and Slinger/Signallers.
- Sufficient resources are appointed (e.g. Crane Coordinator) where lifting operations may clash with, for example, other lifting operations. In the absence of the appointment of a dedicated Crane Coordinator the AP will assume the Crane Coordinator responsibilities.
- The Lift Supervisor and other members of the team undertaking a lift are fully briefed on the contents, scope and limits of the Lift Plan.
- A Lift Plan is issued for the relevant lift only once adequate review/approval has been undertaken and any issues addressed.

All Safety Critical Workers undertaking lifting activities (e.g. equipment operators, Slinger/Signallers) undertake pre-employment and regular ‘Fit for Work’ medicals as appropriate. Where other ‘Fit for Work’ procedures exist, e.g. Network Rail, these should be applied but must meet the same minimum standard.
- All lifting equipment and accessories are suitable, fit for purpose, in good condition, inspected, maintained, thoroughly examined and are sourced according.
- There is an effective procedure for reporting defects and incidents and for taking any necessary corrective action.

CPCS A61 (Blue card) or NPORS N401 Appointed Person for Lifting Operations qualification

Experience of BS7121, LOLER and PUWER
