Clinical To offer rapid screening and assessment, informed by knowledge of the spectrum of mental health needs and risk factors. Provide assessment and Low intensity interventions eg psycho-educational interventions, Guided Self Help, computerised CBT to patients registered with GP practices/health centres in the area. Provide a service that is comprehensive and accessible to a broad range of patients who have commonplace mental health problems and who are over 16 years of age To provide a service that is equitable and non-discriminatory in terms of age, gender, ethnicity and disability. Support GPs and other primary care workers in making appropriate referrals and in carrying out the mental health aspects of their own roles.
Make appropriate referrals to other service providers in the statutory and voluntary sectors and redirect patients to other sources of appropriate support within the local community as required. Develop a local knowledge of the locality and its services and facilities, particularly in relation to mental health issues. Educate and involve family members and others in treatment as necessary, conveying Low intensity CBT formulations with sensitivity in easily understood language. Provide a service that is flexible as far as possible in terms of clinic hours, enabling, where possible, at least one clinic to be run outside normal working hours.
Liaise as appropriate with secondary care mental health services and social service departments. Conduct risk assessments, prepare risk management plans and initiate appropriate action where indicated (including requests for mental health act assessments and referrals to relevant secondary care services). 3.2 Supervision and Training Undertake appropriate clinical supervision on a regular basis in accordance with the relevant professional guidelines and policies Provide clinical supervision to Low intensity workers and Low intensity trainees in the Talking Therapies team. Offer training to Primary Care staff in CBT based interventions Attend locally organised and national training appropriate to the work role.
3.3 Professional Take personal (unprompted) responsibility for achieving agreed clinical activity relating to the number of therapy contact hours per week. To develop an area of interest, to the level whereby the post-holder could become a resource of information for the whole service. Adhere to the policies and procedures of Mental Health Matters, and to those of the Service, overseen by South Staffordshire and Shropshire Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust. Maintain appropriate clinical records in keeping with service operational policy Participate in setting and review of objectives for the post on an annual basis Participate in activities of continuing professional development (CPD) on an annual basis.
Attend professional meetings as appropriate. Ensure that client confidentiality is protected at all times. Co-ordinate and liaise between different staff groups Exercise personal responsibility for the systematic clinical governance of your own professional practice. Proactively take responsibility for attending supervision, case management and line management regularly, participate in objective setting, performance reviews and respond to agreed objectives.
Be aware of and comply with the policies, procedures and standards of service in the Staffordshire Talking Therapies Service Promote and contribute to the development and maintenance of a healthy therapeutic culture within the Talking Therapies Service amongst colleagues and Service Users. 3.4 Management With support of Clinical Director and Senior Therapist, to provide line management for Low intensity workers and Low intensity Trainees Ensure that line managed staff maintain appropriate clinical records in keeping with service operational policy Ensure line managed staff maintain outcome data as per service operational policy Ensure that line managed staff participate in setting and review of objectives for their post on an annual basis Ensure that line managed staff participate in activities of continuing professional development (CPD) on an annual basis. Participate in audits of clinical activity and evaluative research as required. Manage an aspect of the service at the level of direct service delivery.
This might include one or more (depending on available time) of: co-ordinating psycho-educational material, keeping a central resource file of clinical resources for general use, acting as the key liaison with an identified group of professionals/ organisation, for local voluntary organisations, GP surgeries, and employment services.
