Children's /adult Matron

We are seeking to appoint an exceptional matron (RN child or RN adult with an interest in children and young people) to lead the nursing team within the Children and Young People’s Directorate team at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust. The successful applicant will be covering the maternity leave of the current postholder.
We welcome a creative, flexible individual who has excellent leadership skills and a strong background of staff management. The successful applicant will support the clinical managers with the management of paediatric inpatients, the children’s community nursing team, the children’s outpatient and child development team, and the diabetes and epilepsy teams. They will also have responsibility for our newly established specialist nurses in paediatric cardiology and respiratory.
The postholder will join a CHKS accredited paediatric service which is currently rated ‘Good’ by the CQC. We are continuing our improvement journey towards outstanding.
You will need to possess excellent communication skills, agility, tenacity, and a compassionate approach to children and their families, ensuring they feel safe and listened to and provided with opportunities to help co-design services.
Your role will be to provide effective, visible, and accessible leadership, always ensuring a patient-centred approach. You will monitor and maintain professional nursing standards to ensure the care environment is clean, safe and protects privacy and dignity. You will work with your team to ensure that robust systems of governance and performance management are in place.
On the Calderdale site, we have a large ward comprising of a paediatric assessment unit, high dependency care, inpatient beds for medical inpatients, planned surgery, and care of young people with mental health needs. On the Huddersfield Site, we have an inpatient unit which cares for children requiring acute surgery and a clinical decisions unit, supported by advanced paediatric nurse practitioners.
We have a children’s community nursing team, children’s diabetes team, children’s outpatient service, and a child development unit. The child development service, currently located on the Calderdale site, will be relocating to Elland in October and the successful applicant will have a great opportunity to support this change. The service will join the children’s community nursing team, the children’s diabetes team, and the children’s epilepsy team in becoming a community hub. This provides a great opportunity to be involved in project work and change management.
