From Employee Relations and L&D, to Payroll & Reward and Recruitment. Our People Team is right at the heart of WHSmith. These specialists, plus our generalist People team, support the entire Group, including our International business, in looking after our 14,000+ employees globally. Because life moves so fast in our business, the People team has to move quickly too. You’ll need to take the initiative and be ready to make big decisions, fast. Here, the People team is all about finding innovative, commercial solutions and putting them into action.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a People Co-ordinator to join our People team which supports our Travel Stores & Head Office. Reporting into the People Director - Travel Head Office, the successful applicant will be based at our Travel Head Office in Houndsditch, London and will provide a wide range of People support activities.

You’ll have to be comfortable managing a variety of tasks with ever changing priorities and tight deadlines; so utilising your own initiative and drive to be successful is key.
**The Accountabilities**
- People Administration
- including the issuing of internal appointment letters & contracts, tracking of secondments, new Store Manager & Head Office employees probationary & induction management.
- People related administrative support to the Travel field operational team.
- Work in conjunction with the payroll team at Swindon to ensure accuracy of payroll for Travel Store Managers.
- Supporting the management of and compliance to People practices as relates to Store Managers & Head Office employees
- e.g. absence management, probationary periods, leavers, maternity leave etc.
- Note
- taking at People related meetings where applicable.
- Ensuring People data is maintained accurately and updates are obtained when required, to ensure compliance with current legislation.
- Supporting the Travel People team with key processes such as weekly People updates, compiling monthly People data packs, annual salary review and bonus activities.
- Involvement in ad-hoc projects or project support.
**The Requirements of the Role**
- Previous administration experience.
- Confident communication skills with the ability to interact at various levels.
- Strong efficiency, planning and organisation skills as well as the ability to manage a varied and busy workload.
- Flexibility to deliver the needs of the business.
- Excellent attention to detail, prioritisation and time management skills.
- Respectful of the confidential nature of the role.
- Natural pro-active attitude, with the ability to work in a fast paced environment and manage own workload.
- Previous experience in HR/People teams would be ideal, but is not essential
- Competent in use of Outlook, Word, Excel and Powerpoint including Intermediate level of Excel (Vlookups etc.)
